I finally finished my Coven Throne! Most of the up-close pictures look pretty bad - in person, it seems like a much better paint job in my opinion. But man, I have the hardest time painting skin, especially almost-white and pale vampire skin. Really challenging for me and I would appreciate any tips on the matter. And these are even some of my best faces, I think.

Anyway, green is the color scheme for my Vampire counts army. The green dresses, the curtains at the top, and the spirit horde were all done with an airbrush. I modeled the base to look like a graveyard with bits from a Chaos Rhino sprue and zombie sprues, plus a couple of Mordheim bits (the wooden posts).

Let me know what you think! This is the first time I've ever put something that I painted on display like this.

Very nice.

The coven throne model is what got me to start VC.

I really like the green and the faces look just fine, mine were so bad I had to attack the model with a toothbrush to wash away the ugly.

Man, seeing this makes me crave a VC army even more! My Salamanders can't afford yet another distraction.

Nice! The hardest part of a model like this, at least IMO, is dealing with all the little fiddly details, and you did a great job with that.

Great looking model, well done.
The reason your closer shots don't look so good is because of the flash - it washes out most of the detail. Avoid using it entirely - take shots in daylight outside if you can, otherwise shine a bright *white* light (not your normal yellowy lightbulbs) onto it to get better results.
Also, make sure you're using your camera's "macro" function if you're not already, it allows it to focus properly up close.

Excellent work! I have one of these sitting around and I am tempted to paint it everytime I see one so nicely painted. Gota finish my Salamanders first!

Thanks guys!

Man, fiddly details is right... there are SO MANY on this model and that's not even counting the vampires, which is essentially 3 more character models and everything that comes with that. I've been painting it for quite awhile but the airbrush helps a lot.

As for the camera/flash: Ahhh... I didn't realize. It seemed difficult to get the detail I wanted in the pictures, and for some reason it seemed like the flash almost helped the camera focus or something. I know that's not true, but that's the only way I can think of to describe it.

And I'm not sure if I was using the macro function or not, but I'm about to go check!

Thanks for the help!

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's definitely tricky to assemble, too. The instructions aren't the clearest, though they're not THAT bad, but there are just a lot of fiddly parts. And don't even get me started on transportation!
