Started up a Retribution of Scyrah army couple weeks ago. Already have a pretty sizable force due to a couple of good deals I got on second hand stuff and figure I should start getting it all painted up and looking proper. Always wanted to have an army painted yellow, and I figured elves are the perfect army for such a bright extravagant color so that's the plan.

Did up a couple of test figs to see how my scheme was going to work and while it did not come out how I was imagining I wanted it, I still like the results and am going to run with it. Armor is Flash Gitz Yellow layer with two coats of Casandora Yellow shade. This is where the big difference lies as that yellow wash is more orange tinted than I would have expected. The shades it gave me tickles the pyromaniac portion of my brain though and I added to it by putting two coats of Carroburg Crimson shade onto the runes etched onto the armor, though the red is not in the test picture below. Cloth is Ulthuan Grey layer and two coats of Nuln Oil shade. Skin is Kislev Flesh layer with a coat of Seraphim Sepia shade.

Anyways, the test models;

Alright, here are the Battle Mages finished sans basing. Probably do a foursome of character solos next for this month's Play It Painted bonus.

Finally getting around to reassembling the jacks I got in trades and a couple I got in the Battlebox. First up is the trifecta of Discordia, Phoenix and Banshee. Some minor conversion work, namely in that I really think the Hydra forearms look good and am putting those on all my Jacks. Also gave the Banshee a reverse grip on the dagger and spaced the shoulders up a bit on the two Shyeel Jacks so they sit more even and level instead of right on the arms. Need to go back and sculpt some biceps on the Banshee yet as I destroyed those trying to get the arms off of it.

And the other Warjack, a Hyperion in progress. The Battle Engine I got had the legs all damaged, so I'm going to leave those off of it, and happened to notice they made a nice Colossal sized bow when held right, so here we have Hyperion wielding a Starfire Bow. He still needs a bunch of gap filling work and getting all the metal bitz on him yet.

My goal for this coming year is to work more on my Retribution of Scyrah and focus less on my Cryx, so expect more Angry Elves and less Undead Robots.

To start it off here’s some work on my rebuilt Light Warjacks. I really dislike the stock, single pose legs on the kit, and kind of dislike the arms, so I purchased a 40k Eldar Wraithguard kit to use the arms and legs from that. Comes with five different leg poses that are much more dynamic and overall give them a much sleeker/leaner appearance with better sense of movement. Went ahead and changed the halberd heads on the Griffons as well as that will end up giving me five slightly different Griffon halberds. The fourth photo shows what the stock model (minus his shield) looks like in comparison to mine. I don't plan to really do a continuing Eldar theme with the army at all, these are pretty much a one off thing.

Gorgon is missing his arm blades, need to get my hands on a plastic set of those. As well there is a small slot hole on the backs of their arms I need to decide exactly what I want to do with.

So with the change to the conversion policy rendering my entire Cryx army not tournament legal I'm shelving them for awhile and going back to the Angry Elves. Spent most of the night doing general repair. Pinning some troublesome arms on, doing some headswaps on Invictors and Riflemen, affixing the Strike Force's crossbows, ect. Only real conversion that's not already pictured above is ironically enough a custom build for a character who isn't tournament legal himself at all.

Being the huge fan for Goreshade that I am, I couldnt have gotten into Retribution without hunting down a copy of the card for Lord Ghyrrshyld of House Vyre. If you don't know what that is, it's from an event that PP did for PGs only that featured a bunch of alternate history Warlocks and Warcasters. Featured such gems as Haley working for Cryx, Old Witch for Circle, Cylena for Everblight, and that one that relevant here being Goreshade not going dark side and remaining loyal to Scyrah and joining the Retribution. The PGs had to sign NDAs so the cards are Super hard to find, but I know a guy who totally did Not give me a copy of Ghyrrshyld...

The artwork on the card features what appears to be concept art for a Blighted Nyss of some form, so it's no super useful in giving me something to copy, but it has a similar build and helmet shape to the Fane Knight so I'm using his discounted body/head as the base. So far I've put a pair of turbine vents on his back for his Warcaster status and sculpted in more skirt to bridge the gap and create more visual distinction from the original Fane Knight. I think he's going to get Mitten forearms to signify his potent spell casting abilities as well as a call out to Goreshades frequently oversized gauntlets.

Still debating on what sword to give him. Some options include Goreshade1's sword, or maybe Goreshade2's Voass. Those would make a good reference to who he is, but may be too oversized coming from the medium based Goreshades and going onto the small based Ghryyshyld. Other options are the Dawnguard Scyr's sword or a sheathed Claymore to match the Nyss' artwork on his card. Opinions?

Don't know what that symbol on the back of Goreshade is exactly, but I went ahead and copied it over onto Ghyrrshyld's butt cloth as well.

Work in progress painting of my second unit of Mittens, two Mitten solos and He Who Nails Wishes. Doing some stuff different that will cause me to go back and strip and repaint the stuff I did before. First change is I'm no longer base coating the armor or anything. The whole models are just coats of wash over a white base. Second change is I'm following some other advice and doing purple instead of black/dark grey for my cloth color.

These models are still needing a second coat of yellow on the armor bitz, and I want to look at Wysh to see about adding an additional color of cloth to break up the full body purple as it does not work nearly as well as the full body yellow that the Dawnguard have. Then yeah, bases, arcs, flock, ect.

First trio of Warcasters nearly finished. Just need to get their base arcs painted, then they and all the Battle Mages will get flocked. Should have that all done tonight for use on Wednesdays game night and to get their finished group pictures taken.

My May Play it Painted pledges+ all finished up and based. Used two shades of grass plus two colors of flower patches to give them a bright spring meadow to fight on. Now I need to get five Warjacks painted up before the end of our current league next Wednesday, which will also double as my June Play it Painted pledges+.

Also shown here is my completed Lord Ghyrrshyld. Kit bashed the Fane Knight, Rahn and Ossyan for him. Rahn’s cuirass and gauntlets were used to evoke the style of armor worn by Goreshade, along with Ossyan’s backpack to give him the larger vent stacks he boasts. Ossyan’s sword made a nice non-reach elven sword for him, then the Fane Knight’s legs and head keep him from looking too much like Rahn. As previously shown I sculpted in more robe and put that symbol Goreshade has on all of his iterations on it. Still haven’t found out what that symbol actually represents yet...

For a bonus have some shots of Rahn taking on the Miserable Meat Mountain and Garyth and all the solos taking on Convergence of Cyriss. Ended both games via assassination of the opponent's caster.

Work in progress shot of my first three Warjacks. Seeing how the all wash thing works on the larger models before I move up to my Phoenix and Discordia. Definitely need to watch the pooling on the undersides closer, but it looks alright overall. Should have these finished up tomorrow.

Twenty eight hours of work shifts spent painting saw me achieve my goal plus an additional Heavy Warjack and a unit of Stormfall Archers. Was going to try and paint my second unit of Stormfalls as well but noticed one of them had a missing piece as I was starting on them so set them aside. Probably just as well as this unit of archers came out a bit sloppier than I'd have liked due to the rush. One more work shift before the final day of the league that I need these guys for and that will be spent getting their bases all done, plus throwing a piece of yellow onto the Griffon shields.

Managed to get them all completely finished up to secure the title of Opportunist Champion for the Scars of Caen league. Switched the main grass flock from Army Painter to Games Workshop's because the AP stuff was far too annoyingly clumpy while the GW stuff went on much nicer. Did add in an additonal color of gras tufts from AP's line though. Probably add another yet on the next batch. The Stormfall Archers are otherwise a little sloppier done than I'd like because of the rush, but they're within acceptable levels.

And here's a shot of what that gives me for my collection of fully painted models so far. Next up are five more of the small based Warcasters to leave me with only the cavalry model Vyros2 unpainted as he's got some modeling work I want done on him yet.

Despite issues getting the color of Issyria's hair to look good I managed to get these five painted up today. Just need to get their bases finished tomorrow. Speaking of Issyria's though, that model has issues. I dislike the way she's all cloth hanging down and all armor up top with little blending. Add to that her scale is weird, or maybe she's just a giant, cause if she were to stand up straight she'd be taller than Vyros or Rahn. Lastly, she looks like she's doing the duck face... Think I'm gonna have to replace her model, already kicking around some ideas.
