Subject: Battlefoam P.A.C.K. 720 for Airlines?

I'm going on a trip soon for two weeks and wanted to get a case to hold all my miniatures in it, and I'm flying (Delta if it matters) so I bought the Battlefoam P.A.C.K. 720 bag from my local game store for this purpose. Now, after the fact of course, I'm seeing that it may not really be an adequate size for flying. This obviously bums me out, but I have no one to blame but myself for not even thinking about it. That being said, I was wondering if anyone had any flight experience with this particular bag?

Never tried one, but your issue is going to be the 14x14 base if you do try it. I've taken things that exceed those dimensions, but they are always able to be compressed into the overhead bins, and I am not sure that something that needs to stay 14inches without being compressed will fit.
You could of course check it, but I'd be wary personally as checked luggage isn't taken care of very well often times.

troa, that's what I'm worried about. If I can't fit it on, I'm not going to take it, I can always use my actual suit case and bring a good sized book bag. That would due in a pinch.

I've flown with smaller battlefoam bags successfully, and friends of mine with KR multi cases seem to have an even better time of it. But the one time I tried to get my 720 on board I was rebuffed and the models did NOT do well in luggage.

That's what I feared. Well, oh well, I'm trying to find a book bag that could handle the 4" tray and 1 of the troop trays. I could put the two foam layers in my suitcase, protected and wrapped of course and pack a book bag for when I'm down there. Hard trying to find one big enough, would really be a one off thing for the most part.

I've flown with the Heavy Gear Battlefoam bag without issue. I've got a P.A.C.K. Go and I'm a little hesitant to fly with it, though it should be within the guidelines.
The 720 is definitely on-the-line. Check Delta's website, and it still might vary based on the mood of the flight crew.

I attempted to take my 720 to Adepticon a couple of years ago.
My luggage plan was:
720 = carry on
Roller = checked
When I got to the counter, I found that the 720 was too large to be a carry on and hence moved the models to the roller and most of the clothes to the 720. Checked the 720 (now filled with clothes).
At the con, I bought a 430, which I've flown with many times as a carry on.

I've flown a handful of times with my Malifaux (P.A.C.K c4 basically) and have never had troubles with it fitting in overhead compartments, nothing has ever broken. The only thing I ever get is having to watch my bag go through the x-ray machine several times as the TSA try to figure out if what I have is a bomb, or just some nerd's Star Wars collection.

I traveled with both a Pack Air and 720 to adepticon this year, and just a Air last year. From what i've noticed it depends on the plane, which airport and how "nice" the airline employees are. Last year, I got through DIA with No problems until I got to the gate. Told the Air was too large. Ok, free checked bag. Leaving ORD, got to check in, got my boarding pass, started to walk to security, got stopped and was told to measure the Air in one of those stands. Thanks to the wheels and pegs opposite, it was a tight fit length wise how ever height was over by an inch and was told i need to check it. Great....so a bag that is labelled FAA allowed, isn't with United.
On to This year, check the Air at both airports. Made it on the plane at DIA with 720 and have to play tetris with it for the over head. At ORD, got told at the gate it was to square to fit and got it free checked...again with united.
I will say, check with the airline's bag size limits and understand when something has a L+W+H = X doesnt mean the bag will fit even if it makes X.
