Niena sat atop a large rocky outcropping a set of outcasts concealed around her patiently waiting in the desert heat.
“Are you certain they will take the bait farseer, they are only humans after all.” Down the cliff face exarch Meeran spoke voice filled with impatience. Meeran was still young, newly an exarch to the storm’s fury shrine; the rage of khaine was very strong within him and he ached for the blood of his enemies.
“Patience exarch, we have made our presence known, they will come.” Indeed they had, the warhost had spent the past few days on this desert planet of the humans raiding supply routes and slaughtering the planetary defense forces; always melting back into the desert before any real opposition could be brought against them. Now they sat in the desert exposed and seemingly unprepared, the outcasts had sighted the maries several clicks out and the trap was set.
Before the marines could even fully ensconce themselves along the plateau the warhost sprang forward. Prism fire raked across the marine lines as they were forming vaporizing several of the jump marines and crippling one of their transports beyond repair. Inhaling Niena set her sights on one of the marines carrying heavy weapons upon the plateau, her efforts were soon rewarded as the pathetic humans head opened like an over ripened fruit from the round, several of his squadmates fell as well as the outcasts followed suit.
Moments after the initial volley came the unmistakable sound of a drop pod breaking through the atmosphere. Fortunately their arrival was planned for, delving into the skeins of fate Niena quickly found the strands of the eldar around her and hid smeared over them hiding their presence from the enemies sight. Thusly concealed the enemies return volleys were largely ineffective failing to find their marks and merely scouring the nearby sands. The veterans now emerging from their drop pod; quickly they turned their attentions towards a nearby transport its vulnerable rear painfully exposed. The air screamed as a wave of melta shot into the vehicle two shots missed their mark befuddled by Niena’s work, but a third was aimed true and crippled its target causing it to crash violently onto the sands below.
With the battle begun in earnest now exarch Akamon and his brood descended onto the battlefield, their rifles sowing destruction as they struck the fuel tank of the last marine vehicle killing several marines in the resultant explosion. Now stranded without vehicles the marines became easy prey for shuriken fire from the avengers; many marines fell in the initial volley their thick armor useless against the rending storm of fire.
“We have confirmed the death of the human leader.” Exarch Jorahn leading the darkened moon shrine reported as Niena lined up a second shot.
“Well done, continue until none remain.” She replied smiling beneath her ghost helm. Below the new arrived veterans were faring no better the howling sisters screamed as they crashed into the hardened marines losing a pair to the deadly melta guns but quickly dispatching all but a single marine. Exarch Eyena now stalked towards this lone survivor blade held high.
“Come, vile human face your end.” Leaping forward the marine gladly accepted the challenge activating his left gauntlet wreathing it in a shimmering power field. Charging forward the marine ran straight towards the exarch intent on crushing her slender frame under his mailed fists. The exarch merely stood and waited as he approached until it seemed surely his blow would land spelling Eyena’s doom. Then in the last breath she sprang into action moving almost faster than the eye could follow almost effortlessly sidestepping the clumsy charge and bringing her executioner down, neatly cleaving the man’s head from his body.
With their enemies slain the banshees moved off in search of new prey.
Again the unmistakable sound of a drop pod arrival filled the air, moments later hatches opening to reveal a walker, clad in thick armor as old as any eldar. It emerged and turned it’s flamer onto the nearby avengers, lead by Meeran, killing a handful before any could jump out of the ancient machine’s reach. Rallied by the arrival of their ally the remaining marines again pushed forward firing their bolters into the xenos ranks felling another pair of avengers. To the right the remaining assualt marines unleashed a torrent of flames into the warp spiders before charging them chainswords carving through the air hungry for xenos flesh. From the withering flames emerged exarch Akamon and his oldest acolytes, together they intercepted the charging marines shielding their wounded brothers without thought for their own lives. Akamon personally slew two of the marines with point blank fire their armor no protection from the piercing webs. The last was then ripped to ribbons by the remaining spiders who stood victorious over their slain foes.
Responding to the newly arrived threat Niena ordered the fire prisms to shift their fire towards the dreadnought, and for the remaining eldar fire to concentrate on destroying the advancing marines. Swiftly following her orders deady energy lances slammed into the dreadnought crippling both its legs and an arm but ultimately failing to destroy it. The remaining marines fared little better, cut down by withering hails of shuriken fire now only a handful of marines remained.
Seering only a few warriors left Niena began the order to converge upon them before any more lives could be lost, but Exarch Meeran interrupted
“These humans are mine Farseer, do not interfere in this matter.” The fury of Khaine was evident in the young Exarch’s voice, and Niena decided to grant his wish, seeing first that the crippled walker was destroyed with another volley from the fire prisms.
She then settled in and watched as Meeran exchanged fire with the last few marines, bolter shells and shurikens flying between the two squads. Two marines were felled in a single volley while Meera's armor weathered the impacts of several shells the shrapnell bouncing harmless from his ancient armor. Now only a single human was still standing a scant few feet away from the exarch shurikens still pounding into his armor. Then from above a single line of monofilament shot straight into the marines skull and he fell to the desert floor. Exarch Akamon stood on the rock above silently staring at the enraged Meeran. Without a word he turned and left.
