One of the defining traits of the Black Templars is that there are no Characters in standard squads. However, with the way things have been moving lately, with Characters adding synergistic buffs to units they join, I feel it's time to add some options.
I'm proposing that any Black Templars squad be able to upgrade one member to a Chaplain-initiate for 25 points. The Chaplain-initiate would have the same statline as a Sergeant or Wolf Guard in other Marine Codices but would also grant Hatred (Everyone!) as well as the rest of the BT Chaplain stuff. He wouldn't get a Crozius Arcanum though, as that's the badge of a fully trained Chaplain.
The fluff-rationale would be that these Chaplain-initiates are the newest, least skilled members of the Reclusiam who are still learning to be a Chaplain. It'd tie in nicely with the religious zealot-theme of the Black Templars and it wouldn't violate the fluff of the Templars not having Sergeants, while still letting the Templars use the new Character rules (and get that combi-weapon/similar stuff slot that they currently miss out on).
As a member of the Reclusiam, the Chaplain-initiate would have access to the Armoury. Most of the stuff in there is expensive enough that I can't see this being broken.
Thoughts? Ideas? Bacon?
