I'm just going to continue my thoughts between your two threads on this one so I don't have to keep switching between the two :-p

If I rearrange the flamers into the other squads but want to keep the special and heavy weapons in them at the moment how would i go about doing it?
Rearranging the special weapons into the vet squads is easy, as each vet squad can have up to 3 and you currently have 1, although if you're going to do that, I'd try and work my way towards some plasma or meltas in those squads, as they tend to be more effective against a wider range of opponents. The reason I say that is a "special weapons" squad on it's own is awkwardly easy to kill and has to be fairly close to be effective, in general not a good combination for
IG.
If I get another vendetta, is it worth getting the hydra for their protection in the skies as well as for mowing down a few infantry units? (my friend who i play against the most has Tau and he just purchased a sunshark bomber)
The vendettas, believe it or not, are pretty good anti-air themselves. What I'd be more worried about is taking care of his ground units that pose a threat to your fliers. This is where my personal playing style comes into conflict with what it looks like you're building, because I run a decent number of guardsmen with a heavy weapons team in each of the IS's. If you're going mostly mech you have a couple of options:
- Use artillery to take out their anti-air (not a fan, as artillery can be used better elsewhere)
- Deep strike those stormtroopers to pop anti-air vehicles (unreliable, as you won't have them on the first turn)
- Run another squad of veterans in a chimera as a tank-hunting squad, fitting them with meltaguns and meltabombs.
- Use the russ's lascannon to take 'em out. This is a bit unreliable though, as you only get one shot (or the ordinance could scatter)
As for the 500 point list, I REALLY like russes, but I'd be wary of taking one because it seems like infantry is the way to beat your friend's tau currently. The key will really be keeping the basilisk safe until the firewarriors are taken care of, then all of your guardsmen can have free reign of the board. Shadowsun, and the skyray are more for taking out
MC's and Vehicles rather than the lowly guardsman.
