Quick update: several people have requested that I increase the "Add Battle" limit per member per month.

I'm considering raising it to 10 (which, for example, would cover one 6 game tourney + 1 game per week). Would this cover the number of battles you play a month ?

Thanks folks.

I have added dakkadakka.com to the Battle report links list so that you can link to any battle reports you write in this forum.

Hi folks,

www.WFBattles.com is LIVE and is ready for use.

Some things to note:-

1) You can post up to 10 battle per calendar month - the server Date/Time is GMT+8 hours (so you only have about 24 hours to get your August allocation in before the September battle period begins).

2) I have saved all of your test battle details to Google Drive, you will find the link in your "Profile" page > "Battles" (it's a red flame arrow image) If you reported any legitimate battles in the test data you can manually copy the notes from Google Drive and save them in a new battle.

3) I have greatly improved the performance of the Profile Polls and Hobby pages so please fill them in so we get some good data on who loves, fears and loathes who and what everyone is collecting/painting etc.

4) I expect the server could get quite busy if everybody tries to post 10 battles at the same time so it might be wise to copy your comments onto your clipboard before clicking "Save Battle" - just in case!

That's it folks, Enjoy.
Sigmar

PS. Please check out the homepage for "Comments & Chat links" and "Problem?" reporting - I'm subscribed to all the respective Battle Reporter forum topics and will respond within 24 hours.

I've recently added two new pages; The Revered and Battlefields.

WFB - The Revered (link)
-------------------------------------------------

Shows which armies are most feared by each army owner and in aggregate. It also shows which are the most collected (and loved) and wanted armies, I've called that section The Venerated.

Some pics

WFB - Battlefields (link)
-------------------------------------------------

Consists of two elements, the Scales of War (ie. who's "winning" the eternal conflict) and Bitter Rivalries - the armies from opposing factions that spill the most of each other's blood! :-)

I've blogged all the details here (in case you want to know how it's all calculated) :- WFBattles.com -Battlefields Page details

Hi folks,

I've finished adding the Star Rankings rating for batreps (Battles page). Any member can now rate another report and associated links to battle reports here or on another Warhammer forum/blog or YouTube). Members can also see their own batrep ranking (Scribes page - in the Battles section) and who the batrep raters are (Seers page - in the Battles section).

Please help me to spread the news.

See screenshots below and my Warhammer blog post for details of other things I'm working on (which includes a Trust/Distrust reporter feature to allow the community to moderate itself and a Most Valuable Member by participation page).

You can also follow development plans and progress in detail through the WFB Reporters forum or my WFB News Facebook page.

I've made quite a few presentation changes, improved page load times, added a new Member Prestige feature (see below image) and improved the accuracy of the Army Polls by enabling members to leave an army unrated.

  • WFB Member Prestige earned for adding quality battle notes / links, rating other battles and general participation
  • WFB Polls page updated to allow members to, for example, leave an army book unrated because they haven't read it*
  • Several pages now load a lot faster
  • Image attribution so you know who painted which minis

  • * I have removed all the default data where a user did not rate any armies at all. As a result the Poll summary is now a lot more accurate and Warriors of Chaos are well and truly in the lead in the Strongest Army poll, Skaven, Dark Elves and Daemons make up the closest chasing pack.

If you want to keep up to date with major changes please follow the Battle Reporter blog - WFBattles label. Or if you want to hear about all the detailed changes please Like the WFB News Facebook page.

Quick update: the Battle Notes now recognise carriage returns (new lines) so all notes for Battles, Campaign Battles, Leagues and your personal profile Battle editor are formatted correctly.

[tested on latest version of Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Opera; also iPad and Android browsers: Opera, Chrome, Dolphin. Note for default Android browser users: I had to clear the cache before it worked ok]

I've added a small scrolling marquee beneath the site banner to ask members to complete any of the 3 army and hobby polls in their profile pages that they haven't already submitted (the scrolling text box disappears when the member has completed their polls).

Hopefully, this will get us some more responses to the opinion polls, I should have done it sooner but it's only just occurred to me that if a member isn't following this page or my blog then they might not even be aware of the new polls !

That's some very slick design and programming, Sigmar. This is the sort of thing a company that actually took the time to run organized tourneys would maintain. I assume you do this sort of thing for a living? If I played WFB, I'd be all over this just for the cool site you created

Still a part of me laments that GW might see this as simply another reason to fire off a C&D letter, and all your work could go down the toilet.

Thanks for the great feedback ArmyMan, I really appreciate it.

I'm not sure about the programming behind the scenes (??). I'm still learning the programming side, I'm useless at the design really - a few web designers have ticked me off but I prefer substance over style - something I might have to reconsider if I ever manage to get a job as a web developer :-)

The only GW copyrighted stuff on the site is the army books on the Battle Summary and Army Summary pages. If GW kick up a fuss I will remove them and hopefully that will be good enough. Hopefully !

    Thanks again ArmyMan.

Sorry Lobukia, I'd like to accomodate that but 40K isn't really my thing and it would require quite a lot of work, actually not quite but a lot of work. I'm just doing it to learn how to code and develop websites and I thought I'd stick to something that would keep me interested. Apologies.

PS. If somebody wanted to get their hands on my code and do something similar for 40K I'd be happy to oblige, providing they don't try to do it for Warhammer Fantasy (ie just copy my site and add advertising and all that kind of stuff).

I've added Merry Slaughter (most enjoyable army match ups) and Chosen of the Dice Gods (luckiest winning armies) to the WFB Battlefields page [data taken from the Luck & Fun sliders on the Add Battle page]

I think the pages make quite interesting reading - it gives me a chance to show off some of the army pics too :-)

Vampires, Tomb Kings and Wood Elves are all quite close to the top when it comes to needing a little lady luck. Interestingly, the two top armies in the rankings (Warriors of Chaos and Dark Elves) present the favourite battle match up and it seems Lizardmen enjoy their games least, the best of which are battles against Daemons.

Orcs and Goblins & Tomb Kings also make an appearance in the top 3 fun games which is somewhat surprising given that they are way down the list on the Army rankings page - maybe they're just happy gamers or simply enjoy the randomness of their armies - I'm thinking animosity, stupidity, fanatics, crumbling to dust and Tomb Scorpions that got lost :-)

More info about the Battlefields page on the Battle Reporter blog.

I've added a new section to the Hobby Choices poll results page.

It shows which army collectors own, paint, want, love, loathe and fear each other army.

I've blogged the details with some observations here:- WFBattles - Army Collections (blogged)

And here's the WFBattles page under the "Polls" section:- Member's Army Collections

I'm working on a new navigation menu for WFBattles and, possibly, a new header too.

The new header will have a different logo, the total battle and member count on the left and user stats (plus scribe, seer and prestige rank) on the right - see image below.

The current left sidebar buttons will be replaced with a horizontal dropdown menu which opens up (on click) a categorised menu of links to related pages.

The page will become slightly wider which will allow me to use the left hand sidebar for other stuff, I'm currently thinking:-

  • 1) A top 5 winning armies list with army icon) and top 10 lists for...

  • 2) member prestige with member rank

  • 3) scribes (battle report writers)

  • 4) seers (members rating other people's battles)

  • What I'm really after is some feeback with your thoughts, whether you like the format or not and what info you'd like to see in the sidebar if I go ahead with the changes.

    Thanks folks,
    Sigmar

Note that, when logged in, members will see additional options in the menu relating to their account, such as their personal battle list, profile, polls etc.

I have updated the Members Roster page to give people the option of excluding those members from the Win% ranking who have not posted Battle Report links or Battle Notes when they added their battles.

You have the option of setting your own qualifying criteria for Battle Notes which is set at a default of 500 characters [approx. 6 sentences] (see image below and read on) :-

  • 1) Click the check box to only rank members who have posted a link or notes
    2) Choose the number of characters written in the Battle Notes that you consider sufficient*...
...then Hit enter or tab away from the characters text box

  • * add 1500 to the characters text box if you want to exclude all battles except those with Batrep links.

Please subscribe to this thread or this one to keep abreast of developments.

I'm still working on the new menu system but in the meantime....

We now have over 370 tournament battles (and 1,000+ friendlies) so I thought I'd add a filter to give visitors the option of checking out which armies perform best in tourneys or friendlies only (tourney's tend to be played by somewhat more experienced gamers and can distort the stats a bit - check out Bretonnia's position!)

I keep forgetting to mention that you can link from any forum, blog or website to your own battles simply by adding the below to your blog / website / forum signature :-

    http://www.wfbattles.com/Battles.aspx?MemberLowered=sigmar

Obviously, you have to replace "sigmar" with your own member name and it must be in lower case (no capital letters).

I've added a note to the Links & Credits page and blogged about it in more detail (sharing your Batrep links) mainly for the benefit of forum users*

    * (I've included the BBCode used in forums and an optional banner which you can resize or exclude)

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
PS. because we're getting quite a lot of battles with no notes or links to batreps, I am also going to add a filter to the ArmiesVs page to give a visitor the option to only include battles which have been "evidenced" by links and/or extensive notes (probably 500+ characters).

I've restarted development work on WFBattles.com. Here are couple of quick updates:-

I have added a filter to the Member's Roster page to allow visitors to see member Win% ranks by Tournament / Friendly or All Battles. See green ellipse in below image:-

I've added a section to the Battlefields page named Professional Mercenaries & Fun Foes.

It shows the armies listed in order of Fun and Skill (combined) and the enemy they demonstrate the most skill* against and had the most fun battling (where the result was a win or a draw).

    * skill is defined as requiring the least Luck (ie. 100 - Luck as recorded on the add Battle page)

I've blogged about it in more detail here:- Professional Mercenaries & Fun Foes

    Made in gb
    Been Around the Block

I've added a new section to the ArmiesVs page which shows which armies are most active against which enemies for tournaments / friendlies or all battles. You can also filter out battles which don't include batrep links or extensive battle report notes (1,000+ characters).

I've blogged about it in more detail on the Battle Reporter Blog (Warhammer Army vs Army analysis).

I've also tidied up the ArmiesVs page by hiding the notes (which can be expanded by clicking "Expand Key") and by overriding the default sort for the grid columns so that they sort from high to low eg. best performing armies to worst (which, presumably is what people are most interested in seeing at the top)

Next up, I'm adding Scenario choices (eg. Battleline, Watchtower, Blood & Glory etc) and a "Crushing Victory/Defeat" option to the Add Battle page.

    Made in gb
    Been Around the Block

I've added a filter to the WFB Army Vs Army page which enables you to select the Battle sizes (pt values) to include in the Army vs Army, Army Matrix and Battle Count tables (see below screenshots).

It makes for quite interesting reading, the armies which do well in high points value battles are not necessarily the same as those that do well in smaller battles. For example:- High Elves, Lizardmen and Vampire Counts appear to perform somewhat better in lower points value games.

I've also added a few new army avatars to the Add Battle page, I'll be using the same avatars in a new section on the Battles page so you can see the most highly rated battle reports that you haven't read yet.

Army League table by pts value of battle...

Army Matrix summary by pts value of battle...

    Battle Count by pts value....

    New avatars.

Note: If you'd like to see your mini pics on the website please message me on this forum or through Facebook. They need to be of a similar standard to the other pics and I will credit you on Sigmar's Fantasy Battles Links & Credits page
