I just thought I'd let somebody know that the language filter has a "hole" in it.

If you quote a user who has been "filtered", the filtered language unfilters.

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.

If you quote a person, the filtered language will show up as unfiltered in the post reply page, if you post with that unfiltered word, the language filter kicks in and filters the word for you.

Where did this occur?

That's what I meant.
I can't remember specifically (I'll have a quick look) but somebody had typed horse[poo], and the filter changed it to horsegak. When I quoted in the post reply it said the original.

Found it:

Yeah, it says horsegak like it should, but if I quote that your post it goes back to horse(poo) until I click post again. All is working as intended

Yeah I just thought that it kinda defeats the point of the filter if a small child (exaggerating but hey) can just press quote and the filter is removed.

It is by design. The number of people quoting is much lower than the number of people reading and it allows people to workaround any errors in the filtering system (which happen from time to time).

Ok fair enough. Cheers guys

Language Warning!

Heya. I noticed that in the KS breach thread in N&R, when I called KS a bunch of dickheads, it got mod-edited which was a bit of a surprise as I'd expected it to be like gak, feth and so forth and turned into gak, feth, etc.

Since I've read posts my mods, (Manchu and others) saying essentially don't change the spelling for dakka (ie "S#!t, etc) - just type and let the language filters do their job, I'm wondering if perhaps d-head and d-heads should be added to the filter. Obviously "Dick" is also used as a name, especially in the US, but over here we have Dick Smith which is a large retailer, so I obviously see how that one needs to be allowed.

Anyway, I just thought I'd bring this one up.bring it to admin attention.

I can see d-head getting added considering how it doesn't really apply to anything outside of an insult.

In the future, though, it might be better to preview a post in order to check if any coarse language has been filtered, or try not to include any in the first place - the filter isn't infallible, so it's still up to each poster to self-moderate their posts when possible.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

That's only really half of it, though.

The filter isn't intended to be a catch-all for every conceivable curse-word. It's just a handy helper to field the more common stuff. Posters are still expected to watch what they are posting, and filter their own language if necessary.

Sure, I just thought it was worth bringing to the attention of Lego for the reasons that Avatar 720 points out. It's hardly a rare or obscure curse word either.

I suspect far more common down here than in other parts of the world...

But yes, it's never a problem to point these things out... My post was merely by way of clarifying the language policy and explaining why the filter isn't already all-inclusive.
