This one i'm looking to enter for a local painting competition for Space Marine Week, armies on parade. Never painted a SM before so I chose Salamanders for the occasion. I tried to get the best pictures I could. Comments and critiques welcome.

Well done with the lighting and I am especially impressed with the pilot light for the flamer.

Jimsolo, Main reason I went Salamanders was because that was the only primer I had on hand(green) lol. I had a lot of greens to work with. Not expecting to win, but definitely wanted to enter and learn on how to paint better. Still love your models, those marble thunder hammers rock. That freehand Salamander logo was making me wish i had some transfers

Yes, for the pilot light its a dragons tooth, Looked the most Salamander like(to me) so I went with it. Was using the new codex salamander picture as a guide for coloring and modeling. It was fun painting for an army I don't play, more time to focus one one model

Hahaha. After the competition is over, I should try to trade it off of you. That'd be funny indeed.

I also noticed the upturned head. Nice touch.

I really like the base in particular, the whole Hot Coals effect is nicely done!

Nice Salamander mate, I particularly like how you customised the flamer with spikes and such.

I like your highlighting on the green and black, also the flamer looks pretty sweet, i nicer version of the cleaner ones.

Nice model, it should do pretty good in the contest.

Congratulations to conker for a handy second place win! Well earned, brother! (And as a side note, he not only won with a figure from an army he doesn't even PLAY, he beat out two players who actually HAVE Salamanders! Doubly impressive!)

A well deserved win then! I love the hot coals effect and the subtle effect the pilot light adds to the flamer - it makes it more believable. Excellent work!

Well, his win was pretty much a foregone conclusion. I think our only hope of anyone else taking the number one spot was a ten-car pileup on the highway between here and where he lives.
