Hi all.

I've been getting ready for the upcoming MechaniCon GT (early November). The plan was to add some Inducted Guard to my existing Paladin army - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/441831.page. However, it's not going to be ready

There is a separate painting competition so I figured I would enter my version of Sly Marbo, Guardsman Wladislaw.

I've been ready many tutorials and watching "How to" videos and used this as a test model for some new, for me, techniques like glazing and wet-blending. It's going to take a bit more practice, but it will be worth the effort. The eyes will take much more work. It doesn't help that it becoming more difficult to see very fine details. Getting older is making painting small stuff very, very frustrating.

First up - a photo of the complete model

The left arm is magnetized to hold either a knife or demo charge.

A view of the model's left side.

Please feel free to comments, critiques, etc. I am attempting to up my painting ability but am under no delusion of being "Golden Demon" winning level of painter.

Thanks and take care

This looks great. At first glance i thought.. mmm's i don't like these models but you made me change my mind. U did him justice, a squad and scenery would be sweet for the future.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

... yes.

I ask you: why do you have pink brain matter of yours splattered to wall?

I ask you: does it come as a surprise when I inform you that brains are grey?

Anyway, great painting and nifty conversion work, I like the dead tree.

Thanks. Wladislaw is a loner, but there is a veteran squad which will look very similar which is in the works. It will feature Gunnery Sargent Harker.

What? Where is that from?

Looks like some else knows where the quote is from.
Thanks. The model needed something to make it stand out a bit. I had a bunch of small plastic trees around doing nothing so I figured why not.

On to a new stuff. Up next is Inquisitor Worden. He is an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Terminator Armor, psycannon (because why not), and a demonhammer. I used an old Rune Priest in Termie Armor. The new termies are enough bigger that it looks like a basic human.

The model has changed a bit from when it was first assembled. The right shoulder pad needed a change. The original one had a large book that after some paint was on the model it just looked odd.

The back banner changed as well. Once again there was a large book and once again it just didn't fit. Also, I wanted to loose the books to keep it from looking like a Librarian

I recently purchased several weathering pigments and have been watching videos on how to use them for basing. Inquisitor Worden and his retinue have dropped onto a planet that is under a demon attack and they are fighting through areas already claimed by chaos. At least that is how I justify using such odd colors for the bases.

Yeah, Anthony posted a nice video. I was matched against him because our opponents dropped out. He had many, many more battle points than I did. He's a good player and it didn't take long for him to move onto a higher table.

Thanks!

Hi all,

Just finished a Techmarine with a Conversion Beamer. It's in-game uses are a bit limited, but I wanted to try something a little different.

They clearly "borrowed" the technology from Tau

I must admit, I wasn't liking the pink/Nyan cat/granny cardy color scheme, but.....

I was wrong! Especially the tech marine! Great stuff!

Nice work but I think the arms are a bit misaligned, he doesn't actually appear to be holding the Beamer with his left arm.

Yeah, the color scheme won't appeal to some but it's fun to paint. Thanks.

The left hand is about 1/16" from the weapon. During dry runs the arms lined up, but during gluing something happened
For now it will stay as--is. Good catch.

Working on a veteran squad which matches Wladislaw/Marbo.

Hi all,

Just finished my version of Gunnery Sargent Harker.

I used a Catachan for arms, body, and legs. I think the head comes from a sentinel sprue. The heavy bolter is from a plastic Chaos Space Marine kit.
Reaper paints are used for most of the model. I experimented with Reaper's "Pearl" paints on Harker's sunglasses. It was an ... interesting process. I also tried Vallejo "smoke" (on brown leather bits) for the first time. It took a bit of trial and error, but I think I have it figured out. Vallejo brush-on satin varnish was used for a protective coat. Purity seals match the Knights of the Flaming Cheddar and other Grey Knights. I hope it is enough to tie the armies together.

A closer view of Payback.

A member of Harker's veteran squad.

There are eight more veterans ready for paint, but I may work on a demolition veteran squad.

I love your use of colors. While the painting itself is rock solid, your usage of bright pinks and greens that you don't typically see on the tabletop is much appreciated.

Just because it is Grimdark doesn't mean there isn't room for a wee bit of color

I wasn't sure about the Tau technology on the techmarine, but by the last picture I was thinking that it really looks great. Top conversion.

Doesn't it make sense GK's would use technology from a race that is immune to the influence of Chaos? It could be that or I just happened to have a lot of Tau bits

I did notice I forgot to paint a section of the beamer

Original version with blue "I" and middle ring (on barrel) is gray.

Updated version with orange "I" and green ring.

Hi all,

Just finished a couple of more models. A Primaris Psyker and my version of Vet Sargent Bastione.

The Primaris Psyker comes from a plastic box set of wizards I've had for several years. The golds are Reaper masters series non-metallic metals golds/brown with a was of Secret Weapons Miniatures metallic brown wash. I like the effect and it is relatively easy. I used the same method for the globe, except I used a layer of Tamiya clear yellow and and orange wash.

Next is my version of Veteran Sargent Bastione. Nothing special here, but it was fun to paint.

Next up - Demolition Veterans.

Love your stuff! The MoF especially
I did notice; your level isn't broken, it's because he's leaning to one side and with the aid of the level you've stuck the tau bits on parallel to the ground
But really nice work on the whole!

Hi all,

Just finished a couple more veteran guardsman of Vet. Sargent Bravos squad.

First up is Demolition Expert One.

Second is "Skullz". Not surprisingly, he has several skull shaped pieces of armor.

Instead of making their uniforms, well, uniform I decided to use a few different colors and alternate colors depending on piece of armor. I hope it keeps the squad looking cohesive while providing some individuality.

Thanks and take care

Hi all,

The first of two plasma gunners is complete. I wanted something different for the plasma section and went with purple. It looks ... ok. I'm not completely sold on it and it may be repainted.

Work has begun on the next two Veterans / Henchmen (Vox operator and red shirt).

Amazing work! How did you add the name of 'Bravos' onto his base? Was it freehand or decal?

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

Thank you! I have recently switched to Reaper Master Series Paints. They have about a dozen various skin tones and it makes it easier to achieve smoother transitions without having to mix paints. I had been using Vallejo Game Color and am phasing them out. Reaper covers better, particularly in yellows and oranges. I highly recommend Reaper to anyone and for washes go with Secret Weapons Miniatures (which are essentially LBursley's recipe)

Names on bases are all freehand. I use a thinned Dheneb Stone, wash of SWW Concrete (on entire lip), than highlight with white.

Hi all,

A vox caster operator is ready for Veteran Sargent Bravos.
I used Reaper MSP Bone triad for the pants and shirt. It looked a bit odd, but a few layers of thinned smoke wash helped quite a bit.
