Hi all, i've done a few local commissions but now I'm going online, you can contact me at omaclean@me.com or PM here on dakkadakka, where i will be happy to discuss how you'd like model(s) painted., timings or cost Whilst my areas of expertise are all things nurgle and tau, ive also painted some orks, dark eldar, eldar and marines, so i'm willing to paint to paint any model you have.

My commission painting service has 2 levels:
First being above table top, i charge an amount equal to the cost of the model(s) + you supply the miniatures or GW price for them.
Second being display quality, this is price on ask as i will spend a long time making sure your model is perfect.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like a model painted alike to the ones below:

Well your work is pretty damn good you should be able to draw some buisness I really that that Tau Ethereal! Might I ask how much you charged for that commission? (Including the model etc)

Nice work!

Here's the funny thing, I did the tau ethereal for free but for someone else because I wanted to have a sort of portfolio of completed work before I transition to online commission painting. However, if you were to commission me to paint that tau ethereal, it would cost £9.50 if you supplied the model, if you wanted me to but the model for you then it would be £9.50 for me to buy the model and £9.50 to paint it (base no extra charge) so that would be £19 in total if you don't suppy the model.

You're undercharging on the ethereal I think. You should be able to get £35ish (plus the model cost) for that sort of standard with good basing, though I'd be tempted to put another pass of highlighting on the skin just to push the contrast a bit. Good photos will help more too, the ones you have on the white background here are excellent.

You've done really well with this- now is the time to not get caught in the 'cheap trap'; where you get into a cycle of doing lots of in advance commissions for under the going rate.

i would like to be able to charge £35 without model costs but I'm not sure if i can since I'm nowhere near as established as winter dyne yet. I'd appreciate anyways to help my painting service be more known.

Actually, shipping to the US from the UK is extremely reasonable by using third party courier agents (usually this boils down to UPS or DHL as the actual carrier).

Packing well for airfreight can be a bit of an expense, but I think you pretty much have to do that domestically in the US anyway.

Unfortunately, still trying to get commissioned, heres a pic of what a monster painted to the level one standard would be like (WIP still)

It's all about marketing. If people don't know you exist then you're going to find it hard to get commissions.

What are you doing to promote your services aside from posting in this thread?

Guess i should do the same on every wargaming forum

If you can swing a YouTube channel, that would be helpful. Think about setting up accounts on Tumblr, Reddit, etc.

I'm amazed that you can't get paid your level one cost for models at that standard?!?! They look amazing. If I was looking to get other people to paint my army, then I would definitely go to you. This deal is outstanding. My point for this hobby is to paint my own guys, but I doubt I'll ever get to your standard.

Your stuff looks great. I think you have the talent to be a great commission painter, just need to work on marketing and branch out.

Everyone and their mothers are painting 40k, I would recommend branching out into models from other games. WM players in particular have a bad reputation for wanting to play and not paint. Infinity and other skirmish sized games would be easier to scrounge up for painting a persons army etc.

I'm very willing to paint other ranges of models - it's just that since I personally haven't collected them I won't have the funds to start buying the models just to paint for my own collection. But I'm hoping someone will commission me with WM so that I can put those domaines models as examples of my work.

If you can afford a few models I would recommend picking up a War Caster from each faction (so like 10 models) and paint those up. It wouldn't cost too much (Small based Casters are all under $10) but you would be able to show off your painting ability in that range. As a side bonus the Casters are so diverse and usually the most detailed of the models so you really get to show off your skill.

Perhaps I should extend the Christmas discount to war casters?

I can't afford to commision you and TBH I am mostly in this hobby for the painting even though I am not that good. For what its worth though (Which finically is nothing sadly) if I were to get my models painted by someone else I would happily choose you.

a good way to market yourself is put your miniatures on ebay. People who buy it will be looking for more and then contact you if they like your work!

Couldn't hurt, but why discount at all? Your time is the only real currency you have. You are really good so charge for it.

Then do a "intro model price!".

I you order two squads, the first one is at a discount!

that kind of thing.

Also, (note: You might already be doing this, so please ignore...) make 100% sure you set realistic expectations on all aspects with the client. if you tell him "a few weeks" at he thinks two and you mean five, he will give you a poor rating an no one will be happy.

Oh, and your work looks great!

best of luck and have fun.

Thanks for all the advice guys, in my experience ebay pays way less than a fair price - maybe it was just a bad experience - i did an auction starting starting low, should I be doing a buy it now at a higher price instead.

The reason for why discount at all is because I've had months of people saying they "would" commission me, I've even had two people enquire, one of which just never the replied and the other didn't go through because of a changing financial situation. So basically I'm just trying to get people to commission me so word can spread - until then all I can do is advertise and now I'm seeing if lower prices helps.

Intro price is a good idea actually, perhaps standard £15 character price when part of a multiple unit commission.

I am always realistic with times - I don't paint an army a week and I don't pretend to - but the model(s) will be done in the specified time frame
