I've recently started painting for a friend of mine for a little bit of cash here and there to spend on my own army. He already has them primed before I get them. Now I use the armory white, black and grey primers but I've never dealt with their colored primer range. The models are just caked in primer though and much of the detail is covered which is a shame. Do the colored primers go on thicker than the standard ones.

Its very difficult to make a model look good once its been so thourghly drowned in primer.

I had some issues with my red in the past coming out quite thick in the past but when I recently tried it on my Vyper model with short clean burst it kept the details sharp on the model, its just a case of being more careful.

Editted: Turned out I have army painter, not armoury, ooops. Ignore me.

Gah if they are drenched in primer then its a case of strip it off and restart .LA's Totally Awesome..the yellow one (Not the Oragne ) from dollar tree or dollar general..will make overnight work on the primer and not hurt the mini's ..

Well since there not my models I dont feel comfortable risking damage trying to strip them. My friend isn't bother by it so I just paint it as best I can. I mainly asked for educational purposes for future use.

Armory primers is the brand that receives the most complaints on the Internet other than Citadel. I'm sure one can chance upon a flawless can and apply a good quality coat with Armory, but chances are something will go amiss compared to using a more reliable brand.

I would not trust a "serious" product like pressurized aerosol that uses cartoons and Comic Sans MS font on its label. It would be like buying a My Little Pony chainsaw.

Havent actually heard of 'armoury primers' ... but as with any aerosol can, heating the can up before you spray can help solve many of the common problems.

It ups the pressure, lowers the fluids viscosity, and decreases the difference in temperature between the paint and environment (once its drops loads as it depressurizes) closing that gap can help with condensation of the humidity in the air issues.

To fix the caked on primer, use 99% isopropyl alcohol, and a stiff bristled paint brush. Will take 30seconds of dipping it in and a few minutes of brushing the primer away
Will not damage GW plastics, finecast or metals, Im yet to try it on forgeworld resin, but wouldnt hesitate to try it tbh.

I have used Armory brand primers, and I find them to be fine.

I have used the white, black and gray. Been very happy with them, and they give nice thin coats.

I have also used the "army painter" colored primers, and I find they are a bit thicker than the "armory" primer, so take a bit more care to not cover too much.
