Hello everyone, I am having trouble looking for a product or a way to diy a project. I am currently in an apartment thus my terrain has been put into storage and is not accessible, but I would still like to play games now and then. My solution was to purchase or make whichever is easier/cheaper tiles is an 1'x1' or 2'x2' format that would have city terrain printed on them. The idea being that I could neatly stack and store these in a closet while taking up minimal space and providing a lot of modular terrain depending on how they are arranged.

Is anyone familiar with a product that would match this description or has anyone seen/done this themselves. Thanks a lot everyone I appreciate the input.

Secret weapon finished up a kick starter for exactly that.
i have no idea when it will become available for retail

failing that go to a cabinet shop and see if you can get them to cut you a number of 2x2 1x1 or whatever shapes. they shouldn't charge you THAT much but it might depend on the shops them selves.

I did a make my own board that's sitting in my closet pretty easily if you want something simple. I cut plywood (you might can find something cheaper and lighter, but I had access to some carpentry scrap at the time.) into 6 2x2 sections, primered it all black, marked off some areas on each piece to be roads, then hit the rest of it with glue, river sand, and another layer of glue to help hold it on the board. If you wanted you could spray the sand grey afterwards for a more city look.

Ahh yes, then it comes down to a obtaining the images of a street view city of an acceptable quality. I'm not so certain how easy that will be. There's the obvious go to google earth zoom into a random city and start taking snapshots of the screen i suppose. But I will check into secret weapon.

I was thinking something more along the lines of this quality.

There are plenty of downloadable/printable gaming mats for all sorts of settings (with a bit of a slant, from what I've seen, toward fantasy, what with the D&D crowd having such a large share of the market). If you don't mind spending a few bucks, Wargame Vault specializes in that sort of stuff. I've seen free ones here and there, as well, but the quality varies. Mats are less common than papercraft terrain or gaming pieces, it seems, so you might have to dig a bit to find something suitable.

Your search will likely be made all the harder due to the fact that you're looking to cover a larger surface than is needed for your average RPG encounter and want a modular layout. If you're okay with a somewhat more limited layout, here's a surface I like that can be tiled, allowing you a degree of freedom, but not total modularity.
