Seems they really get riled up when it comes to grey models, proxies, and counts as stuff. Who cares it's a game, people need to relax and realize just because you're unemployed in a basement doesn't mean we all have the time to properly paint / convert...

I'm just saying man, mouth breathers get too worked up about simple things like grey models and proxies. It's a glorified game of toy soldiers...

I think you need to relax mate.

I actually find that the Neckbeards have an increased chance of running a grey proxy army. They do get upset, though, when I refuse o play them.

That's really strange. From my experience it's the neckbeards that complain because they want everyone to put in as much time as they have. Must be an anomaly where you play!

So the long and short of this thread is 'people value different things then I do, so I will insult them', right?

I don't mind gray armies, it all comes down to the opponent. For example, one who throws insults and 'hurr hurr neckbeard' is someone who I won't like to play regardless of the army quality they have/

The only reason what I've said could be construed remotely as insulting is because people actually live true to this stereotype...

I object.

I'm self-righteous and dislike unpainted armies, but I neither eat cheetoes (ew) nor do I have a neckbeard (or any other kind of beard, for that matter)!

Most players dont get worked up over it. what I usually see is a "neckbeard" telling someone "hey, your stuff would look a lot better painted" and the other person then going into some sort of berserk rage.. usually because they are afraid of getting made fun of because their painting skills arent up to the level of the neckbeard.
We all started off without being so great. When i started, i was using testers oil base paint and had no clue what washing or drybrushing was.. Now, years later, I am winning painting competitions. Even when i was bad, no one made fun of my work because they had been there too and they gave me encouragement.
No one is asking you to paint the Mon Lisa, They are only pointing out that at least a splash of color would make it more aesthetically pleasing.
personally, I dont care so long as I can see what is what, you dont cheat or act like a jerk.

Cheetos are a (cheddar) cheese-flavored snack in the US that comes as either a puffy or solid finger-length stick; both varieties are crunchy. They tend to rub off on your fingers and leave an orange powder on anything they touch. They also happen to be pretty good if you like that sort of thing.

Here's the thing about stereotypes... They exist because they have truth to them, and people get pissed off when others use them because they DO have truth to them. Also, only the ones who feel they share traits of a stereotype actually get mad about one...

Actually, quite the opposite. I find that people get offended by stereotypes because they do not conform to the stereotype, and yet they are branded by it.

For example, if I were to say "Americans are fat, cowboy hat wearing, gun obsessed rednecks" I am sure there would be an American somewhere who would be offended. That does not mean said American is a "fat, cowboy hat wearing, gun obsessed redneck"

On the contrary, if someone said that to me I wouldn't be offended as things that aren't true don't bother me. If I were a fat cowboy hat wearing, gun obsessed redneck it would.

I mean, while I personally will never field an unpainted model, I don't require my opponent to do the same, as that would limit my pool of opponents to just the same dozen or so I already play. So, if you guys find it beneficial to denigrate people rather than welcome them into our shrinking hobby, then by all means keep doing what you are doing. I'd rather accept them as fellow hobbyists and show them how much I enjoy the different levels of the game, the list building, the collecting, the artistry, the competition. They will stay or leave on their own, but I find no pleasure in publicly driving them off by reducing them as human beings.

EXACTLY! Thank you. My point SJ is the ones driving others away from our hobby are the self loathing cheeto flicking neckbeards who get angry at grey minis...

Funny story, back when I was in australia, the GW store there forbade unpainted models. Like, the staff would get irked when someone has greys. They wouldn't throw him out or anything, it just bothered them a bit, and irrc you couldn't have unpainted minis at one of their special events.

Bit of a useless anecdote, but I found it odd.

Dalymiddleboro, I could say the stereotype for someone who is going to rant on the internet is some 40 year old, balding, single, hot pocket and McDonald's eating fat dude living in his parent's basement and has no social skills. There is some truth, there are plenty of people like that. I am glad by your own words you admit you are one of those I just described, since there is truth to stereotypes according to you.

By the way, did you realize all Asians are smart, and either doctors or tech gurus? That's another stereotype. Some are also really cool ninjas, to this day.

You don't truly understand stereotypes, however, because stereotypes are NEVER actually mostly true. There are just as many health nuts who get upset about armies that aren't painted as there are "cheeto eating neckbeards". You use neckbeard as a derogatory word, similar to words people use to describe different races.

And with that, hopefully a mod closes this pointless thread so we can move on in peace, without your "valuable thoughts" that "contribute" to this forum.
