I hadn't seen this. Really cool stuff. The only issue I have with MDF is that I'm not sure how to paint properly. I've never experimented with it.

There's someone down there in the CB/Infinity sub-forum that just gives 'em two coats of Army Painter sprays and he's good to go...

And yes, thanks for posting this up - lots of interesting options in there!

If you added the Tech Centre and shipping isn't too bad to the US, I'll order 3-4 pieces tomorrow. This one: http://www.wargame-model-mods.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2950500-Commercial-Building-Tech-Centre.html

Edit: also, FWIW, adding more pictures would be great. I was much more sold on the terrain after seeing the pictures on Model Mods' site.

For painting MDF, there are only 2 real issues I've had:
1) it drinks up paint
2) the burnt edges REALLY drink up paint

I don't use Army Painter on it, because the $4 RustOleum paint/primer cans from Home Depot work just as well on MDF, and are way cheaper. And a great color selection.

The burnt edges I started solving by putting some PVA glue on a sponge, then sponging the exposed edges. Its a pretty quick process, and that seals them enough to avoid the paint drinkage. The only real reason this is an issue is because if you don't, the edging is really inconsistent with the rest of the terrain.

I've heard both sides of that one.

I wish there was a definitive answer.

I'm not seeing that one on the Minibits site - am I just missing it somehow?

You are correct, it is not on Minibits site - that's what I'm saying. If they added it, I'd order it and a few others in a heartbeat.

Ah sorry - I misunderstood - or is that it in fact that I understood without understanding that I had understood?

But yes - I'm with you on that one.

If that building gets added, I'm in for it and a few others...

We will be adding this one soon as well, this is one of the newer designs which wasn't available when we placed our initial order with WMM. I'll pop a message through to Tom asap and get some stock ordered, and then we're good to go.

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately I'm slightly limited by my website software there, and can only have one image per product. I have considered creating some montages, but I'm wary of them being too small to see properly (I'm limited on image size as well, the joys of website code...!)

Got my order this morning! Will have fun sticking them all together over the next couple of evenings.
First impressions:
They were very well packaged - I think I have enough bubble wrap to insulate my loft!
The instructions appear to be clear & concise although on the storage tanks piece they've written 'ass' instead of 'as' - chuckle.
The pieces come in ziplock baggies with each smaller section coming in its own smaller baggie.
The pieces appear to be very well cut with clean edges & unlike other mdf models I've bought there doesn't seem to be the added hassle of having to pop out the pieces & ending up with little scars where they join the carrier frame.
I did an order with FW on the same day & this order beat the FW one to get to me - great service &, IMO, great value.
Thank you Minibits!

I advise using 'no more nails' PVA glue rather than just bog-standard stuff. Also use the elastic bands to hold stuff together & hobby clamps or even clothes pegs (as they're much cheaper) when you have to stack pieces.
The octagonal pieces are really quite tricky & take time to get right. There's the odd gap in mine but I think that might be slight sizing issues with the pieces rather than my gluing skills.
I haven't tried putting the missile launcher together yet but it seems simple enough.
Be careful when you put the window & door blanks in (you'll see what I mean when you get the kit) as if you put them too low they can interfere with others pieces later on.

Thanks for the tips.

With MDF, generally use a combo of PVA + Superglue, and rubber bands to hold pieces together.

Yeah - I tried using a medium viscosity super glue to spot fix each joint before pouring on the PVA but I couldn't get the superglue to really stick :(

That's why I use both. I find the superglue needs time to set, but then its pretty firm (firmer than just PVA). The PVA helps it hold initially, though. I usually put on PVA, then dot super glue on at intervals. It might be overkill, but I've done that on the joints/connections that I need to hold firmest.

Well, turns out they weren't actually shipped until today, almost 2 weeks later, at least as far as the shipping notice I just got.

Apologies for the mistake, the buildings were shipped out on the 5th, a couple of days later than planned, due to us being away at a wargames show on the 2nd. Then we didn't get chance to click the website confirmation until the other day as we're kneedeep in wedding plans as well!

The buildings should be with you over there anytime now hopefully, please let me know when they arrive safely.
