At my local gaming club for niduary we held a painting competition. This was my entry so c&c welcome. Tyranid Carnifex hive fleet leviathan. I added a gloss to the shell to give it a shiny bug carapace look. I got 3rd place

not bad work. I really need more pics to make any real comments.

Just forgot what I was going to say.

I like the blood effects around its mouth.

One thing I've never liked about that particular hive fleet color scheme is when you have hoof-like things that are such a stark red compared to the rest of the model. Looks great on scythes and all but just kind of goofy on feet. Maybe that's just me.

The paint job is very nice. Kind of hard to tell from the photos the purple parts are glossy. Maybe some further angles of it might help?

Good job man, keep it up. I would try to add yellowish/brown tints to spots here and there. You can notice it on the GW version of Levi too. You pulled off the white quite nicely.

Nice paintjob, but I'm surprised you'd settle for such a boring base.

Updated with better pictures, I am not very experienced with larger bases, and the model was given to me already built and plastic glued together (I couldn't break it apart.) I traded for it to get a tyranid for the competition, I will definitely have to work on bases more in the future.

The white looks a bit too white... almost like he's covered in frosting

I like it, a nice scheme that brings the modle alive and shows of your skill as a painter. Well done

The white paint looks really thick. I like the carapace though

I was reluctant to post this since me getting 3rd place, out of 3 entries, so it felt like dead last :(

White is very thick since the mini was undercoated black and you didn't thin your paint enough. Next time try applying a couple of layers of grey that covers black much more easily and then go over grey with white. Remember to keep your paints thin! It will make a ton of difference to the quality of the minis you paint. Next learn to drybrush, it is the simplest technique out there and still so many kinda refuse to use it. Drybrush will produce much better results especially on textured surfaces like nids than a badly executed highlight. Finally washes and inks give depth but on white, well they kinda stain white making it look unclean. For nids you should aim for a more organic color like bone white or bleached bone. This can be washed with brown with great effect. Never be reluctant to post a pic of the minis you paint. All the staff I am saying is because I could see that mini and all the advice is intended to help you take first place next time not make you feel bad about this one .

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

PM me if you are interested in Commission work.

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

It looks OK, but it really needs some shading. Try using a little watered down Druchii Violet in the recesses (just the recesses, mind you, don't cover the whole thing) of the skin.

Pretty cool! I think that the white skin areas could have done with a nice wash over them, just to add some more depth and detail, but overall, awesome!
