Hello all,

Looking for any guidance, ideas or criticisms. I'm in the process of making a modular city board using a lot of cork. I thought the best way to tie in the minis I'll be using would be to literally base them on the same stuff.

What do you guys make of the base so far? I feel like its missing something, but I'm not sure what. The final bases won't be this large!

Thanks in advance.

Same base but with a few different weathering ideas on it.

Looks fantastic man.

Maybe a little bit darker, or a quick wash of black just to fill it in a little more and help shades become richer. It could be the camera but the yellow stripe is a bit dull in its yellow, maybe bright it up and the stark contrast will be conflictingly beautiful!

Look at your hand! You're a messy painter aye!

IMO the colours look about right - we always think that tarmac is black but only when new. It quickly fades and picks up dust. Also the yellow lines get quickly worn. I would do them more hit & miss myself & more faded too.
Also pick up some brass etch storm drain covers & manholes. Try doing a pavement edge as well!
Add some rubbish like cans, bullet shells, leaves, scrunched up pieces of paper etc too. Add oil stains.
How about some pot holes to really get the British feel!
If the road is really old, then weeds will start breaking through.
Nice job so far though. Really like the paint job on the guardsman too.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Thaks for the replies,

I may try doing patchy washes in different areas and see what happens. That was the only yellow I had at the time, need to get one that 'pops' a little more yeah!

I tried to sponge on the line after masking it, maybe I need to wipe off more of the paint before applying it? For the actual terrain board I'm laser cutting drains and manhole covers to fit into the cork directly, so will wait until I've got all that designed then apply some of them to the bases too. Good idea with all the junk, I may have random piles of broken up rubble occasionally (but nothing too heavy) and will make potholes by scratching them out of the cork.

Has anyone got any links for the old Cityfight posters that GW had on their website years ago? I'd love to get a load of weathered posters and the like to have them ripped up on the bases or occasionally on a ruined wall etc.

I like the idea of the weeds, will probably go for some quite subtle ones using woodlands scenics fine turf, but need to make sure whatever I do can also be applied to the modular board too.
