Hello gentlemen.

As you probably could figure out from my sig, I run an Armored Battlegroup. However, I am at the moment torn between the ABG list from FW and the new Codex. When the ABG list gets updated, I am sure I will use it - but until then, I am going to experiment with both lists.

My main concern, however, is how to run a Pask/Tank Commander HQ Tank squadron. Here are my thoughts:

1) Use all the same type of tank.

Pros:This allows me to make use of the once-per-game-but-awesome Shoot and Smoke order without worrying about target selection - that is to say, the tanks can all engage the same target (duh). It also provides an insurance policy against failing the LD9 order test for the TC.
Cons: Incredible inflexibility, or incredible mediocrity. For example, I can pick all Vanquishers and have the AT unit of doom, but be practically helpless against non-armored targets, or I could have the basic Russ utility variant that's alright against everything but is incredibly mediocre.

2) Use mixed tank squadrons.

Pros: This somewhat nerfs the smoke+shoot order, because you'll likely be wasting one type of tank that is unsuited to engaging the specific target profile you've engaged this turn. However, with the alternative split-fire order, this can be good. Can synergize well with Enginseers and their "Awaken the Machine."

Cons: As mentioned, removal of the smoke+shoot option. Failing the LD9 split-fire test would be unfortunate as well, because again, you'd be wasting one tank's worth of firepower. However, this can be mitigated somewhat by the inclusion of an Enginseer.

Other concerns:
I would prefer three-tank squadrons for fluff reasons, but I am willing to only run a two-tank squadron if that is really far and away the best option.

Enginssers: Are they worth it? PotMS seems awesome for a Russ, but it's pricey and easily killed.
