Inquisitor
Divination, Red Grenades, 2x Servo Skulls
[76]
[2000]
Big, fat blob squad teams up with the Inquisitor and roll up to the mid-field. Rads are just because, while five ACs should be good for shooting up stuff at range and the Flamers give them a nice Overwatch. Divination from the Inquisitor is always good and Ld10 Stubborn is a no brainer.
Pask and the Plasuctioners enjoy the re-roll from PE and with Kill on Sight! they will be tossing a lot of plasma about the field. The twin Demolishers use Kill on Sight! to throw large S10 shots. The Exterminators throw down lots of S7 TL shots.
Two Vendettas are solid options as always, even for increased cost. The PCS hops out for suicide templates or just to score later in the game (grav chuting as needed). The two Vet Squads sit back in cover with +1 cover from the FS, while pot-shotting with the ACs.
Simple, straight forward. Six Russ tanks, two flyers, and a lot of dudes.
The other list I am debating on:
Imperial Knights
Knight Errant (Warlord)
[370]
Knight Paladin
[375]
[745]
Astra Militarum Detachment
HQ:
Tank Commander
(2) Executioners
Pask, Plasma Sponsons, 1x Relic Plating
[443]

Heavy Flamer, 2x Flamers

[1248]

[64]
[1996]
Here, I just opted for less stuff to cram in two Knights. Not sure if that would be competitive at all, but I love those Knights! So, any excuse to put a few on the table. Same as above tends to apply for unit roles. Except I have the Errant for the big fat Melta and the Paladin for that double Battle Cannon love.
So, caveat - I have been out of 40k for a long time. Been waiting for the new IG 'Dex for a long while and now that it is here, I am trying to buy as little as I can while not deviating too far from what I like. That being said, rip these lists apart. How well will they hold up in the meta-at-large? Can these lists succeed?

I feel like the second list is stronger, but I think you need to add the following.
More Transports for your troops
An Aegis Defense Line with a Quad Gun
Then I'd get some Primaris Psykers to buff those squads.
I'd also recommend a Punisher, remember Pask gives rending to shots, and has precision shots because he is a character.

The squads blob up, so they will be fat foot squads. The Inquisitor has Prescience for the squad, if needed, plus Ld10 Stubborn. Punisher I can do, generally, which does save me a bit of points, but not nearly enough for an ADL. Plus, not sure who would man it unless I left the blob in my deployment area instead of slogging it up the midfield, which is doable.

Wait actually looking at the 2nd list I don't think that's a legal list, I'm pretty sure all of the infantry plattoon counts as just one singular troop choice so you may be short a troop. I just checked and that's the way I interpret it. Even though you got multiple infantry platoons its just one singular troop selection.
Well I don't see the point of the Relic armour, I'm not sure what Wych fire powers you are worried about. So That may be a place to drop the points..
Remember though that Aegis defense line is high enough that you could do a straight line across and get that delicious 4+ cover, with a camo for the tanks... not a bad thing.
Now when setting up the Aegis, you'd want to be mindful of making it as straight as possible so you'll have a lot of room to maneuver degree.
I think PASK for second list is defintely something you want to consider.

Second list has AM as just an allied detachment, with Knights being the main detachment and both lists have Pask.
Problem with static ADL option is short range on the Russ weapons, excluding the Exterminators. Relic armor is cheap, so not really spending much for some insurance.

I can understand that reasoning. I personally really want to see how a huge block of Punishers with Pask perform.

Second list is illegal due to there being only 2 knights in a primary. 3 is the minimum.

40k armies: Harlies, Tzeentch Daemons

You can always just drop some upgrades, buy a vet squad with autocannon, and make knights allied.

Where I locally play now, I only see two hard matchups for you: DE Lance Spam and the internet Jetseer list. The first army packs @ 26 Lances and they have Night Vision. However, good use of terrain can try to mitigate the shooting somewhat and there is the fragile nature of DE Vehicles. The second list basically uses the jetseer to try and multiassault the tanks and assuming they have Fortune, tries to force you to shoot at the Jetseer council
Otherwise, I think there is a very reasonable amount of shooting which would make a Tau player reconsider having a shootout.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Looks good, though you dropped the knights.
Remember knights are never good at scoring and they CAN'T deny objectives.

Yea, I dropped the Knights. I figured I owned 7 Russ tanks, why not use a few of them? I will run the Knights in another list sometime. I am just glad that Mech Guard is at least somewhat viable again.
Any other ideas? Tips? Do you think I should try to bring in Knights as an Allied detachment?
