This is a list that I plan on taking to a competition and I thought it would be nice to get some feedback.

HQ

Belial with TH&SS - 190

Deathwing Command - 325
Apothecary
Champion
Deathwing Banner
Assault Cannon
TH&SS

TROOP

Deathwing Squad 1 - 245
Chainfist
Plasma Cannon
TH&SS

Deathwing Squad 2 - 240
Plasma Cannon
TH&SS

Deathwing Squad 3 - 225
TH&SS

ELITE

Deathwing Knights - 235

Dreadnought - 135
Venerable
Plasma Cannon

HEAVY SUPPORT

Land Raider - 255
Storm Bolter

So the game plan is really to have Deathwing Squad 1-2 and the command with Belial to deep strike most likely on turn 1 so they can pretty much handicap the opponents heavy hitters. The Deathwing squad 3 will most likely hold the back field objective while the Knights will sit in the Raider and take care of deathstar units with some smite modes. The Venerable Dreadnought will try to get some kills and at best annoy the enemy. Then when the end of the game comes near I'll try to claim the other objectives.

Now as far as competitiveness goes I'm running Deathwing so I threw that straight out of the window but still will be a lot of fun. So I'll leave it at that and I hope you like the list that I made.

My criticisms:

1) I would drop the command squad.
-It doesn't score.
-Has bad durability for its points cost
-Does not add much (if anything) to the army.
-You could have spent these points on another scoring unit.
-If you want a beatstick terminator squad to go with belial, then pt him with the knights.
- If you are walking so many units across the board, you might want to try and use the FNP banner instead.

2) Squad loadout:
- Using terminators for shooting is not an effective use of them, you want them in melee.
- CML/ Assault cannon are the undisputed best heavy weapons. (Unless you are using belial + HF squad perhaps). Plasmacannons are pretty poor in comparison.
I would get more TH/SS. They are the only thing that makes your terminators even slightly worth their price tag.

3) Base landraider???
- Who takes these things anymore. Almost any other raider would be better. Terminators are packing str 8 armour ignoring weapons, so leave the big stuff to them. They struggle with hordes, so get a crusader (or possibly a redeemer, if you like the inferior option).
-Also consider the Spartan assault tank instead. +45 points gives you 2 more lascannons and an exta hullpoint.
-No deathwing vehicle either?
-Storm bolter?!! The multi-melta is only 5 more points.

4) Also, only 1 landraider??
-Footslogging terminators wont end well, deepstriking them in is also incredibly risky, only belial's unit wont scatter, and dropping multiple scattering 250+ point units in one go has a significant risk. (also tau pie plates of intercepting with ruin your day).
-Consider a 2nd landraider. It will provide more cover, let the unit inside move safely up the board, and will also take some of the anti tank pressure off your existing raider.

5) PFG?
-If you are taking multiple raiders, then consider a PFG librarian or techmarine on a bike. Whilst not entirely fluffy, they will make your 550+ points worth of boxes twice as durable.

6) Plasma cannon dreadnought - Why?
-One advantage of DA if that they can take multiple mortis dreads.
- For 145 points you can take a dreadnought with 2 TL lascannons which has skyfire and interceptor. I know which one I would choose.

Hope that helps.

One thing that I probably should've stated is that the competition is keeping things as vanilla as it can get so any forgeworld stuff is out of the question. Also must stress that there are no spare points so it's an even 1850 list.

This I completely agree with but I will say the only reason is that it makes belial slightly more survivable. I honestly think the banner is a little pricey and finding the points would be an utter nightmare.

2) Squad loadout:

I feel that the Plasma Cannons on the terminators is a good choice because it's cheaper then the others and is ap 2 makes it very versatile against a huge variety of infantry units. The hammers are there purely to soak up the shots that would deny my 2+ saves and instead need to get through a 3++ save.

3) Base landraider???

Oh boy where to start, the only reason you would ever take deathwing vehicle is to have dedicated transport and frankly venerable isn't worth a darn in 6th edition. What's wrong with two twin-linked lascannons? I value the godhammer pattern over the others to be honest and also had this Raider take down so many flyers so it has some luck there. Ok, the storm bolter was taken purely because that was all I had left.

I'll be really blunt and say that tau will ruin anybody's day. One raider is going to have to do since it does only leave 1600 points for the rest of the army and that's not a whole lot of points in the sense of deathwing. Deep striking terminator is it risky, yes but sometime you have to take risks to achieve a certain leverage against the opponent.

I take it because I find it fun to run it.

As far as changes go the command get's dropped as well as the storm bolter and get another squad , giving the other deathwing squad a CML, and giving the MM to the raider. I do find this helpful but if I wanted a really competitive DA list then I should be running ravenwing it's just that I hate painting bikes. I know this is a long reply but it felt more appropriate to talk about it in sections. So as again thank you for your feedback.

Venerable re-rolls that lucky explodes result, or the immobilized result that would leave your terminators stranded. Land raiders are more likely to explode than be glanced to death, so it still has a purpose. You can get by without it however.

Land raiders are actually a very good counter to tau. The only firepower that will pose a significant threat will be half range fusion guns, and hammer heads. Of these, fusionguns are close range, so are difficult to get into position and are vulnerable afterwards, and hammerheads (which are less and less common) only get the one shot, which is offset by venerable.

Have a read of this list: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281946-repost-by-popular-demand-mechdwa-deathwing-1850/
I agree with its principles, and I find mechanized DW to have more merit than a footslogging one.
Of course neither is particularly competitive. But getting tabled is never fun.

It's because dark angels is my soul army and I'm also not a power gamer. Dark Angels may not be the best but they still have a few trick up their sleeves.

Some people don't like using the latest fad easy mode army either.
