So imperial knights have come and gonea nd I've seen a bunch of cool chaos conversions and paint jobs on them but i haven't seen any Xenos style Imperial knight conversions (mainly through google). Here is my first BIG conversion and my take on what a necron imperial knight is. My idea for it isn't a necron made imperial knight but more of a mock to the nobles that pilot them. The fluff for it is an overlord and his group had a battle on a far off imperial colony where some nobles had an imperial knight. The battle was a well fought one but the necrons triumpted over the imperial forces and the overlord looked at the imperial knight and was a bit bemused. He took the remains of it and upgraded it to fit the needs of the greatest race. Pretty much a "this weapon as you call it is an infant's toy compared to our most ancient of tech. Barely fitting to serve as my mobile throne."

Most if not all the necron parts came from the Ghost/DD ark and i was very surprised on how well everything simply fit into place as if it was ment to be. And i added the crown for giggles to make it look a bit more necron. I wish i could think of something to do with the chain sword but at the same time it feels balanced with one weapon necron and the other imperial. I want to do more imperial xenos conversions like ork with a power claw and eldar with more slender frame from wraithknight and tau. It would be my mighty Morphin Xenos rangers knight army.

These pics are from an older set that i took i forgot to take a close up of the top chaise.

Also i would love to hear what anyone and everyone thinks about it for my first try. Any kind of advice for the future or critique would be wonderful.

Cool idea and pretty solid execution. My only suggestion would be to file off the Imperial and Mechanicus iconography and smooth out some of the Green Stuff in a few places.

i do plan on smoothing out the green stuff and replaceing the mechanicus iconography with more The Ankh of the Triarch like on the shoulder pads but unsure of how to make it. I was thinking some plasticard but i don't have the stillest of hands. But at the same time i'm also thinking of keeping the iconography and do some battle damage to it with blast marks or cuts into it but i want to make sure of what i want from it before i do it.

I'd make the chainsword akin to a giant warscyth, chainswords are a bit crude for a necron vehicle.

I'd also, personally, be inclined to lose the head, as you've got the guy sat up top. possibly even see if you can find the head of the canoptek spyder or old tomb spyder to replace it with a less chaos-y look.

i wanted to make the chain sword into a warscythe but my test models didn't look right. I'm thinking along the lines of a hyper phase sword. But please keep in mind that this is supost to be an imperial knight that fell in battle that an overlord bling'd out to mock them.

I do have plans to make the chain sword maginitized so i can just switch it out with whatever i replaced it with and vice versa but first i gotta make something for it. I do have a greyknight dredknight sword that i converted to look like a hyper phase sword i'm just not sure how i could attach it and make it look right. I'll post pics of it tonight.

Thank you for the advice so far guys!

this is what i made from the dreadknight sword. it seems a bit small still for what i want but maybe not if i make an arm and hand gripping the blade instead of hanging it on there like the chainsword is.

I might keep it and use it for something else but the quality of it vs the necron imperial knight just doesn't match.... I should just make from from scrap from platicard. Stormonu your picture gave me the idea of taking a lychguard's shield shaveing one half off and add a handle to the top end would look like a nice phase sword.

and i am gonna get rid of that "imperial" on the side of the sword if i use it

loving the idea.
My thoughts remove the control panel and raise the seat of the throne up a couple of mm. Maybe add a couple of arm rest to the sides, make it more a throne of command then control, if that makes any sense. Add a weapon at rest to one hand and lower the disco hand down to a pointing finger, add some green stuff robes/ vestments/ over sized shoulder pads to your Overlord. This guy has a chip the size of a moon on his shoulder, and is going to show it to the galaxy!
Now mount the control panel in/behind the crown with a stock Necron, it's ok if he is hidden inside the carapace a bit, he's just the driver, the focus is on the Overlord. I guess the whole idea that Im seeing is something in line with Indian elephants, half naked diver siting on the elephant's neck and the Grand High Punjab siting in splendider on the howdah on the back.

Replace the shield on the right shoulder with a Necron shield or shield shape (see the picture of the Immortal above). This is the Overlord's ride now, although the base is Imperial, this is now a Necron vehicle, old 'ownership' marking should be remove/replacement/desecrated. So maybe remount the shield still painted in it Imperial colors somewhere on the throne as a taunt to the order that lost the knight in the first place?
Not sure on the exhaust, would the Necros replace the power source? Would the Overlord worry about the exhaust tarnishing his throne/ body?
Weapons, love the idea of a power kopesh, think that a scratch built one would work for you better, size wise. As for the main gun, rotate the ammo hopper 90 degrees (make it look more like power source then a ammo can), and add some clear blue/green rod to the inside of the breach, again add to the energy weapon vs. the slugthrower look.

Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work.

thanks a lot mud duck i'm gonna use a few of those idea. I like the arm rest idea and replaceing the shield with a lychguard shield on the left (model's right)

Edit: Here is a current update on it. I wasn't able to do what i wanted to do with it since there is a painting competition at my Local gw and i want to devote as much time to painting it as i can. I'm currently working on the cannon its a bit sloppy right now but after i feel godo about the glow effect im going back to fix it up.

This is also the first time i'm doing the "classic" necron colors so any tips and helpful advice is welcomed as always. Also i will be using the transfer sheet for the first time so any advice on that would be great too! I have plenty of them so i plan on wasting a few so i know what im doing with them first before i do something wrong.

EDIT: update

here are more updated pictures of the Necron Imperial knight for now.

not done with highlights yet but wanted to see what the ironbreaker legs and runefange trim would look like togeather. I'm going to need some washes for that ironbreaker.

Also does anyone know of any good turtorials for using the transfer sheets?
