So, I've been a big fan of my Dark Eldar for a while now, and thought I would start a thread to show what I've been working on thus far. While it's primarily a Duke Sliscus force, I've been known to mix it up with some Baron Sathonyx action, or some Urien Rakarth business.

My custom Duke Sliscus: (he's to the left, rocking a peg leg and a blast pistol)
Spoiler:

I've used quite a few Dreamblade figs in my army, and plan to use more. Some are destined to get some conversions, and all will eventually have their paint job altered. Here's some Grotesques.
Spoiler:

And some Wracks
Spoiler:

Recently, I got a shipment from a fellow Dakkaite who threw in many extra bits to make up for the trade being late. The extras included ALMOST an entire unit of Scourges, missing only the wings. I ordered the fairy wing set off Reaper and tried to do the best I could.

Tonight, I finished a set of Trueborn. Since I ran out of blasters, I sliced the barrels off some Dark Lances to make blunderbuss blasters. (Blunderblasters? Blasterbusses?)

Not one to waste a project, I magnetized the barrels so I can swap them out for Dark Lances if need be. I don't see myself needing more than 4 Dark Lance models, like, ever. So warrior/trueborn figs are probably good to go for a bit.

In other news, got the harlequins stripped, although it's going to be a bear of a time trying to rig up some Kisses for them.

My Razorwing is in the mail.

My metal incubi are in the mail.

Awesome...

Now I only need to decide on what to do next: conceal the faces on my Dreamblade-wracks with greenstuff, or start building my second traitor Wraithlord (this one a Cronos).

What do you guys think?

I think they look nice but the thing that keeps hitting me is that Sliscus is on a square base.

He is indeed. Once I build up the confidence I'm going to slice him off and mount him on a proper round one.

Forgot to post pictures of this guy!

What if a Wraithlord went renegade? Sure, he couldn't ever go into Commorragh, all psychic-y like he is, but he could still join the Duke! To that end, here's Frykyrion, the Traitor Wraithlord.

Spoiler:

Good, good. All spiky and whatnot. Got the chains and skulls and spikes and skulls on chains on spikes (no, really) going for him. But he could use more. I know! What about a horde of slaves clustered around his feet, giving him the look of a total mack?

Spoiler:

Just got these chicas to use as basing material for him. I think I may pick up a scenic resin base, too. There should be enough of the gals in the pack to do both Frykyrion and his brother Frakomedes.

So a Dakka user sold me a Lelith Hesperax model that he himself had purchased secondhand, only to find it defective. (Her right arm was a stunty little mutant hand; a miscast that was missing the middle third of the limb.)

I hemmed and hawed for a bit, trying to find just the right bits to use, agonizing over the decision. Then I heard someone say on a TV show that timidity was the greatest enemy of an artist, so I threw caution to the wind, chopped of her upper arm, and grafted a new arm in it's place. Incidentally, if this thread is to be believed, then pretty much all DE are lefties. The only non-character melee army I have in my bits box is the one knife from the hanger-on in the Raider sprue.

In any event, without further ado, here's the pale flower of the dark city herself, Lelith Hesperax. (Again, forgive my cruddy camera phone. I'm still using an '06 Juke.)

On a more creative note, I also finished my Baron Sathonyx conversion this week. The final product contains pieces from the Hellion, Raider, Reaver, Wych, Archon, and Necron Immortal sprues. Here HE is.

Aaaand way in the background you can see an Archon. But he isn't really important, since he's pretty much an off-the-rack selection.

How in the hell did I miss your fledgling dark eldar blog? I have to make it a point to use the "posts by this user" option more often, keep finding these things way after the fact.

Looking pretty cool, I'll have to see it to believe it but the slave girls all over the Wraithlord's base might be pretty neat. I like the custom characters, they're nearly always cooler than stock models.

The wracks and grotesques are interesting for sure, are they meant as a hodgepodge assortment of failed/successful haemonculus experiments?

The plan is to have three haemmys and three units of wracks.

Since I run Urien Rakarth, the three haemmys are three of his proteges. Unbeknown to them, they are experiments of Rakarth's own, part of a secret sinister experiment that my entire army revolves around. The eldest has a fondness for savage creatures, and so the wracks that he has create for combat assistance have been crafted with features designed to impart a sense of brutality, of creatures halfway between man and animal. The middle haemonculus instead seems himself as an artist, and seeks to create ethereal, elegant creatures that fascinate even as they terrify. The youngest instead seeks to perfect his craft through meticulous step-by-step study of all the body of work on flesh modification that has already been done. The first group will be the brutal Dreamblade figs (like the caveman guy) and the second one will be the elegant, pretty ones. The third group will be GW wracks, since that haemonculus is obsessed with the traditional route.

Finished my latest Talos/Cronos conversion.

In case the pics aren't clear, I pinned a Dark Eldar trophy rack to the back of the head, ran a row of spikes from the Raider kit down the midline of his noodle, and wrapped barbed wire around his wraithvanes. For weapons loadout, his right hand has a hypodermic needle that can serve as either a spirit probe or an ichor injector, depending on what I want to field him as. The left hand, raised as though shielding his eyes, has a magnetized port that can be left blank when he's a Cronos, or given a heat lance, splinter cannon, or haywire blaster if I should want him to be a Talos.

Certainly looks more evil than a stock wraithlord whatsit. Looks good to me.

Here's my newest Wraithlord-turned-Talos, based on the Little Sister cenobite from Hellraiser. Right arm is the Ichor Injector/Spirit Probe made from a hypodermic needle, and left arm is magnetized for to take a weapon if I want her to be a Talos (or stay bare if I want her to be a Cronos). Added some Chaos trophy spikes to her back. The face was done with guitar wire, although I had to build her 'jaw' and the top of her 'skull' out with GS in order to conceal where the wire came through. Added some knee and knuckle spikes to make her extra Dark Eldar-y.

Yeah, I'm really digging those. I got some extra heavy weapons modded onto them. Like all my models, they'll look vastly better when painted I imagine.

Got the last two Cenobite-Wraithlords modeled. (Painting is another story!)

Halo (left) has homemade barbed wire around his upper legs, and skull-laden trophy spikes on his shoulder and kneepads. The head spike halo came from the spikes in a Raider kit. The corpse strapped to his wraithvanes is a Warmachine bit. I think his 'attitude hand' came out particularly well.

Fan Dancer (right) is a little unfinished, since she has a skirt, hair, and feathered fans that will be added once she's painted. Still, she sports an athletic, sexy-leg pose that was a bear-and-a-half to do (I had to cut her in half at the waist--her midsection cabling has been replaced by a bendy stray segment) and her wraithvanes have been replaced midway up with Dark Eldar trophy poles.

Both of them are rocking the ichor injectors (Halo's is made from a hypodermic needle, Fan Dancer's from a drilled out Dark Eldar polearm shaft.) on one wrist, and a magnetized port on the opposite wrist, allowing them to play double duty as either a Talos or a Cronos.

This brings my total of Taloi/Cronoi up to ten, meaning I can now field up to FIVE Dark Artisans, or two full Corpsethief Claws!

I was recently told my third party grotesques wouldn't be acceptable for competitive use, so to comply with my local TO's requirements, I got ahold of some legitimate GW models to convert into grots, as well as some old school 3rd edition grots.

Spoiler:

I've included some closeups of the conversions to the rat ogres' tails.

If it makes you feel any better, most of my minis are cost efficient. Those Wraithlords came for $10-11 apiece (as opposed to the $47 of an actual Talos), so there's a significant cost-cutting aspect to the approach.

I sporadically do a 'Dark Eldar on a budget' series over on the Dark City website, too.
