Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Yowch is that heat cracking on his legs. Dumb question but who are these Marines fighting? If it's mean't to be 'nids they'd have claw scratches and acid burns Necrons they'd just have bits missing etc.....Also it's probably worth thinking about where a Marine would get hit. Most damage would probably be on the shoulder pads and be a vertical blow as thats where people hit each other...Hope that helps. These are awesome and I'd love a few weathering battle damage how to's at some point and thats a great hint with the plaster for bases. I also can't wait to see more Renegade stuff!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

No, it isn’t heat cracking. I copied it from one of the pieces of art in the old SM codex. It’s meant to look like bands of armour on his legs. It does look a bit silly at the moment as I haven't 'knocked back' the colour with any washes. And thanks for the tip ... I haven’t really thought about who they're fighting, probably renegades with a few chaos marines.

Amazing work so far, truly inspirational techniques, I might take a few of those ideas for my CSM though I know I'm not as awesome a painter as you obviously are.
One thing I will say, if you do decide to do Latin script on tanks, you should aim for some real Latin rather than the faux Latin of the 'Ipso dolore' which is not Latin, but a miscopy of an old text. It works great if you want filler text which doesn't attract the eye, but finding some real Latin which means something would (in my own opinion) be more interesting.
There are passages from Caesar's War diaries here: http://ancienthistory.about.com/library/bl/bl_text_caesar_latin_gallic.htm and if you fancy parts of nature, the works of Pliny the Elder here http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/pliny_the_Elder/home.html have all sorts of different chapters which can provide you with texts.
Just an idea, I'm an Ancient History student so a bit of a stickler for such things Feel free to ignore me, just thought you might enjoy adding something extra.
Keep up the good work and I will be watching your Chapter's progress with interest.

Brilliant job on these. I'd hate to face these on a table top; my guard would develop an inferiority complex.

Here is a bit of a painting tutorial
The model has been spray basecoated with red. You can get this colour by mixing mechrite and blood red 1:1 it was then washed with Baal red and the white, gold and metal bit basecoated and highlighted.
After the first highlight of the mechrite red: blood red: blazing orange mix (2:1:1) this was roughly painted onto the areas which were to be highlighted and scratched.
Second highlight complete; mechrite red: blood red: blazing orange: bronzed flesh mix (1:2:1:3)
Helmet and backpack attached.
After the first wash of Devlan mud. I wiped some of the wash off the helmet and shoulder pads with my finger as these areas wouldn’t get as dirty.
After a wash of gryphon sepia into the areas which would receive the most dirt. The model is bases at this stage.
The model almost finished... just a few last things to touch ups, and of course the bolter. The eyes need to be redefined, and some further shading is needed on the gold and steel areas.

Here is a link to a good middle of the range airbrush similar to mine on amazon. This is a good starter airbrush as everything you need is in the kit and it's pretty cheap as they go. The best paints to use are tamiya acrylics thinned with tamiya acrylic thinner. I bought a similar set about a year ago from the same seller.

No probs let me know how you find it once it’s arrived.
Here’s a tip. Always keep your airbrush clean: Don’t be afraid to take it to pieces occasionally to clean out the insides. If you do get any paint that dries inside you can use a spot of nail polish remover which acts like a mild paint-stripper.
And remember to upload some pics so we can see your handy work

These are absolutely fantastic. I just have one question.
The Marine on the first page, that you said was in GD...What is that thing on his stomach? It looks rather nurgle-ish, like part of Typhus's Destroyer hive.

@ TempusCorvus: the thing on his stomach is half a Dark Angels' incense burner. I don’t know what it would be in reality... just a decoration I suppose... just put it on 'cause it looks cool and made him unique.
The tactical squad so far... I didn't get as much time as I would have liked painting this weekend, but anyway this is what I got done. All that need to be done now to them is painting and adding the bolters, re-defining a couple of highlights and checking to make sure all the models are uniform. Oh, and of course the marine with the plasma cannon!
If all goes to plan there should be a nice 'pic-heavy' update coming along in the next couple of days.
if you have any questions, want to ask for tips or give any tips feel free to comment.
