Geez. Well, at least he didn't wind up dead. Still, that's not exactly a smart move on his part. Is he going to be sending everything to you or will he be finishing things up himself?

Looks like a visit from the police smoked him out. He lost his job and was hiding away until he got things sorted. A very bad PR move I've told him, but at least he's back. He should post an update to the KS tomorrow.

What made the police visit him? That is encouraging from the standpoint of their taking an interest, not him losing his job.

He should be straightforward about it. It sounds like most of the stuff is produced, if he can't afford shipping some of the backers may be willing to add funds to cover theirs. I've done this in the past when a creator fell on hard times to get my items shipped... it's a decent compromise and much better than getting nothing.

I'm guessing someone called in a "Wellness Check" request...

I would say Alpharius is right, as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, someone close to this guy must have called in a Welfare check...

I guess Tony Reidy will give the same trick a try. "Production's done, we just need extra cash for shipping."

While I have faith that Anthony and Chris will deliver, I hold no such hopes for Tony.

Heh. I only have the one Salamander + addons. Hopefully those wil be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

I think the add-ons had to be sent to another caster, and that took a while also.

Sucks for Chris, good that he has a new job though.

I'm willing to pay for shipping for my stuff. Makes it an even break I think.

After numerous phone calls and leaving messages he wasn't responding so Anthony contacted the local police to see if he could file a missing persons request, the police offered to do a wellness check which is where they go an knock on the door and if there's no response they check the location for signs of body as people do at times drop dead or can be severely ill to the point they are unable to get help. In the case of no contact for a month there was potential that he might have been dead. Fortunately he's alive, although the judgment he showed with how he was managing things on KS was pretty flawed IMO, people tend to understand when there's delays from stuff like losing a job or personal issues, however disappearing with no notice starts ringing alarm bells pretty loudly.

Glad Chris turned up ok and not dead, but I think he's going to have some serious questions to face.

A shame he felt he couldn't let people know what's happening.

I like to think that the gaming community is pretty good about looking out for one another, and especially in the case of Kickstarter- things happen. Life happens. People get caught unawares.

I think if he had been a bit more forthcoming instead of just dropping off the radar, people would have been pretty understanding and willing to help out. There's always going to be the angry and upset ones, but that's just reality- you can't please everyone at all times.

Hope things turn out well for everyone involved.

Heck I'd be interested in picking one or more up at this point if there are extras left, couldn't get in on the KS. maybe he could open up orders (higher priced still than the KS), to do a "second wave" to help offset the shipping of the KS.

Theophony, the plan as far as I know it is to put these into regular retail sale after all the Kickstarter orders are shipped.

The Salamander was to be the first of multiple mecha from the Protectorate Wars Project by Anthony Scroggins to be made in a 3D form.

Well, at least he didn't turn dead which was a real possibility.

Otherwise, I have stopped expecting "rational" thinking from humans almost two decades ago, not a good judgement from his side and something people may not forget soon, but what was done was done.

I hope it does not severely impact any plans for 28-30mm Ranger models.

There haven't been any plans for 28mm minis.

IIRC from the artbook thread it was discussed as a possible plan.

^ it was discussed in the 15mm KS comments also. Anthony and Chris both stated that since the infantry was all done in 3d comp sculpt it wouldn't be a problem to upscale them for 28mm, and was something they would explore later.

Not really. It was people from this forum wish listing and begging for plastics or 28mm as they always do. And them sticking to 15, rightly so.

anything else was more then likely to placate the vocal "push too far" minority that Exists in a kickstarter comment section.

Kickstarter comments section?

They never explicitly said there'd be no 28-32mm stuff. They just said it wasn't on the table at this time. Maybe someday in the future. I'd love to see those Elemental suits in a larger scale someday.

I think they want you to either post your choice in the comment section of the update on Kickstarter or to send them a direct message. I posted my choice in the update comments. I'll probably message them as well just to be safe.

I think with the prices that 28mm commands nowadays, it might be a safer bet to stay and expand in the 15mm segment. There's bound to be a change of guard one day or another.

You mean from 28mm to 15mm? for me only in the league of 40k sized games and above, were vital space is important, for model painters and skirmish gamers 28mm is perfect.

Add-on updates

The first few new sets of add-ons should begin to come in at the end of the week for early option pickers with more following next week to take care of most option 1 and 2 non-infantry people. You'll know your number is up when you get a message about postage.

Infantry masters are in the hands of the casters and undergoing final tweaks for production. We'll update more as casts begin to come out.

We'll also post a set of assembly tips tonight. Look forward to it and thanks."

I hope the sporadic bumping of this thread isn't a problem. You guys have been one of the most active forums on this project so I thought I'd drop in to give an update.

Now, 5 months after our original planned delivery date, complete backer orders are shipping out! The only thing we don't have yet is the infantry, but those are currently being cast, Iron Wind Metals should have them to us in a week or two.

We can finally see the end to this tremendous undertaking. Who knew producing even just one or two minis could be such an ordeal when faced with mass production.

Once all backer loot is mailed out we'll be getting the Salamander and infantry up for general sale ASAP. From there we'll start planning what to make next, and as some have been wondering, I'm not locking this down to 15mm. Rather, I'll be having miniatures made in any scale that proves to be in sufficient demand. Keep an eye out on my DeviantArt page or Rangers Project facebook for eventual polling on that subject.

Thanks for sticking with us through everything.

Glad to hear it will make it to general sale, I'll endeavour to pick one up when I'm finished with my current projects.

With the ever increasing popularity of Drop Zone Commander, and the hype building for Spartan Games's Planetfall I can see your Mech being in the enviable position of providing an eye catching proxy/alternative/custom 'stompy death machine' for use with these games.

Food for thought if you're considering further mechs vehicles, as long as they're vaguely compativle with 10mm vehicular combat I reckon you'd be on to a good thing...

Good to hear things are progressing well. Glad I added some infantry to my order

Now I will just need to actually paint up some 15mm terrain and more models so I can get some games in at some point.

Also for those that may not have seen any recent pictures, here is one of the best unpainted shots we have so far.
We've got 3 guys expected to do some pretty awesome paint work. One is an ex-GW painter, one has some excellent 40K and Battletech examples, and the 3rd is Darrin "Spaceman Spiff". Of course among the 216 backers there's bound to be more nice work done.

I received mine today. Very little mold lines. Very high detail.

Some detail lines are so deep it looks like it's 2 pieces stuck together. You can even pick out the trigger finger on the guns.

Mind posting up some shots of your add-on parts if you've got a decent camera and lighting? Not even I have seen the add-ons other than when they first came in as masters.

If you don't want to post them here, you could link to an imagehost, or email them to me at shimmering_sword_300t@hotmail.com

I've emailed Shimmering some pics of my addons. Posting/hosting pics from my phone is troublesome.

Overall, very good quality. Only weak spot on the mecha itself is the head. The dome isn't very smooth and the edge needs some cleaning up, but it's nothing you wouldn't expect on resin. The rest of the mecha is great. Very little mold line. Some detail lines are so crisp and deep I thought at first it was multipart that had stuck together.

The addons are similarly detailed, but the casting isn't quite as clean. Bit of flash, but I've seen far worse on Forgeworld stuff.
