Played against a completely painted 2k Mantic Ogre and Goblin army last week. I thought they all looked good. Even the weirdly slender Ogre legs looked fine when ranked up.
Player said he didn't like the Goblin figs as much, especially painting. I thought they looked fine.
I think for ranked games, Mantic figs are fine. I'm not sure if I like any enough to want to start an army of them though.

I'm in a similar boat. My opponent has nearly every Firefight army. I started painting my Mauraders, and stopped because the sculpts were just too bad to enjoy.
At first I was keen on them, because it felt nice to work on models that weren't so bloody expensive and highly detailed. But these are just .... rough to find inspiration in.
I am still buying, still playing it with him. But right now, just not feeling the painting. It's a pity because the game is fantastically structured.

Yep. That's why I'm sticking to non Mantic figures for my Varangur and Kingdoms of Man (precise faction undecided) army. Conveniently, those are two of the armies with the least expectation of using Mantic figures.
Doesn't hurt that I'm spending even less than Mantic prices.

I picked up an ebay auction for a dwarf apc. I’m going to use it for enforcers in grim dark future. It’s the second mantic vehicle I have bought.
I assembled it completely without glue or instructions in less than 10 minutes. The pieces come without sprue and only minimal cleanup is needed.
I have three mantic forces: enforcers, rats and orcmarauders. The rats are the best ones model quality wise. They are decent. Not great but a reasonable option. The orcs are chunky and very softly detailed.
But so far their vehicles are extremely well done for a very good price.

My Mantic history (if any interest...) with photos.
The first army was the Elves, as that is what my son wanted and I thought they were spindly and too extreme. However, upon painting and basing and adding some paper capes they came out looking nice and my son loves them.
I picked up the Dwarfs and Undead. The Dwarfs were pretty squatty, but OK and thought the Undead were super, some of their best early sculpts.
Picked up a few Ogres and other various ones and thought their Ogre Beserkers are among the best sculpts out there (pic is stock and not my paint job)
On the big KS a while back I picked up the big Basilean army and started a few, but the terrible proportion of the Men-at-Arms put me off and I shoved them all back in the box. Recently, I reworked the arms for the MAA w/ swords and spears and put the file on Thingiverse and printed up a bunch and they look so much better - will probably get back to building that army again soon.

I really love the plastic they used for the vehicles too, at least the Forge Father tank I've got. It's really satisfyingly thick

I have been working on Deadzone terrain and Plague figs this past summer. A few of the plague figures were bad (bursters, and the 1st edition 3rd gens) but all the modern sculpts have been good to work with, and their terrain packs are outstanding.

Oh yes I want some of their buildings (the ones that are more modern sci fi and not in ruins). They are fantastic.

Really great work all around and kind of history of the ups and downs of Mantic Miniatures along the way. The Dwarves and Undead are my favorites.
I'd be happy to play -or play against- any of those, any day.

Agree about the 1st ed. 3rd gens, but from your photos, I can tell you sussed out how to improve them: get rid of those dumb pin-heads and substitute more proportional ones. They still aren't outstanding minis, but they're a heck of a lot nicer that way. Looks like you used the helmeted Plague zombie heads on yours. I discovered that the 2nd gen heads, while too small to look great on 2nd gens, look perfect on 3rd gens.
Like your inclusion of one of the Deep Madness minis as a large plague beast, too. It looks great with the rest of them.
A lot of the newer stuff looks better than the original Plague models, but I still prefer the original 1st Gen and Plague Teraton sculpts.
Overall, you've done an excellent job modding and painting your Plague and deadzone terrain. I've been waiting to paint mine for years, but will finally get 'round to some of them this winter. Hat's off to you. Automatically Appended Next Post: Shrapnelsmile wrote:Oh yes I want some of their buildings (the ones that are more modern sci fi and not in ruins). They are fantastic.
The ruined ones can be better for playing games with, though, because they're easier to see models through and to move models through.

I am loving the new Ogre sculpts, from what I see of them. Can anyone attest to that new KOW range regarding fit and quality of assembly potential?
