Yep.
Received my lucky dip from North Star today.

£28 for a lot of metal but no control. So what's I got? Some Nazi's, Foolish Yanks, Brave Tommies (with a great Para Sargeant), 2 Toff Officers and some Highlanders. Lots of Archers and some Cowboys. This gives me a great bunch of supporting characters for Pulp World War 2 games but disappointingly I didn't get as much that would be useful for the Conclave of Hrin and Frostgrave as I hoped. also I'd have liked less archers. Some useful lead for the pile though and some great random models for trade and variety..

Well receiving them led to me looking forward to Lure of the Liche Lord which I ordered at the same time and so I started mucking about with generic Frostgrave miniatures. I'm also idly considering what I've got where for each of the entries. Vaguely planning to assemble a varied cast to give me the options for pretty much anything for two people. Idly I can do at least three themes of band Humans, Chaos Nutters & Skaven with Halflings possibly once I work out a wizard and apprentice. The bestiaries harder work equally I've got the Zombicide kickstarter which'll give it a huge boost. Anyway heres some models!

Nurglings as Imps is a straightforward use of models languishing in my bitz box. Excellent!

These Kung Fu fighters given knives work as Thieves

This Arabian Archer will work excellently as a Ranger

This Ashigaru will make a reasonable Marksman (no Crossbow but as long as he stands out and is armoured that dosn't worry me)

These have been chosen for these roles as I want models that are more individual for elite characters. These will provide exotic mercenaries for my discerning wizards as well as a chance to practise different skin tones.

Bestiary thought exercise

Wizard-Own, quite a few for various Warhammer armies
Apprentice-Own several requires a younger plainer model.

War Hound-Own, I acquired several for my Halfling Mordheim Warband no mods required
Thug-HW-Own some
Thief-HW-Own some
Archer-Bow-Own lots my Bret Archers will appear here
Crossbowman-Crossbow-Own some, Mordheim models, Empire Militia
Infantryman-GW-Bret Men-at-Arms

Apothecary-Staff,Potion-Don’t Own at least don’t think so
Marksman-Crossbow, HA- Ownish Ashigaru will do but definitely short of Crossbowmen

Skeleton-Own spares from a Vampire Counts Battalion I brought for my Beastmen as well as some Wargames Factory Skeletons acquired cheap for conversion fodder
Armoured Skeleton-Own spares from a Vampire Counts Battalion I brought for my Beastmen as well as some Wargames Factory Skeletons acquired cheap for conversion fodder

Frost Giants-Don’t Own, Don’t like the Reaper models, Not planning a frozen wasteland setting so possibly an Ogre or Minotaur?
Giant Worms-Don’t Own Reaper best bet.
Snow Trolls-Don’t Own, Own River Trolls will use happily.

Frost Grave is an excellent game if like me you have a bunch of eclectic fantasy figures gathering dust that you want to use some day. To this end I spent some time yesterday just pulling randomly appropriate figures out of my bitz box.

Most Importantly 3 Wizards. A Sorceress, Witch and Marco Columbo who will also be used for this.

Still don't know who made the Sorceress. I'm guessing Reaper?

Mercs

Mostly from the charity shop of wonder, I've also got lots of the Empire Militia due to an inordinate fondness for the kit during my youth and also my Brettonians will be sacrificing many minions to the cause.

Bestiary

Giant Rats are from the Plague Monk sprue (an excellent sprue for parts actually often neglected) from my old skaven army, the 2 Champions of Tzeentch will do for minor daemons, while the Celtos figure will work as a big nasty of some description. Finally the Skeletons are finally assembled after having been brought as part of the Vampire Counts battalion I brought to start my Nurgle Beastmen with. I used GW skeletons and left the Wargames Factory skellies for spares as those are hideously fragile.

As you can see Frostgrave rewards my hoarder side with many models I haven't ever used suddenly becoming far more useful. First model painted for Frostgrave coming soon!

Painting wise I've also completed my first squadron of SEM walkers

C Squadron 44th Company 231st Hrin Infantry.
These Cerberus walkers are a heavier duty version of the Sentine created on Ladysmith for Siege operations within the Hive where normal vehicles just can't fit and Sentinels can not provide enough firepower.

I've also finished the Command Group of the 3rd Company 232nd Hrin Infantry

This completes the 3rd Company

Rhino & Commissar are GW. The other transport is Brigade Models and all the Infantry is PFC C-in-C SEM range mainly the Militia with a few from the Imperial Guard pack as well. #excellent range although irritatingly the website does lack photographs. The models also have ended up rather well camouflaged with my basing material or I could take some better shots!

Check closely some of it came out of yours!

Received my Frostgrave Nickstarter goodies. Lovely stuff and I've done a review of the cultist sprue over on my Forces of Nurgle page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/231101.page I put it there mostly to revive interest in a flagging blog and also as I plan to dual purpose them as both Frostgrave Death Cultists and Mercenaries and Cultists/Marauders of Nurgle. The thing is also rather more of a collection with army size contingents of Beastmen and Warriors with possibly if I ever feel like being spectacularly lavish Daemons as well. Therefore my work on them belongs there. The other mercenaries and the bestiary work however will remain part of this blog.

With that here's my first Frostgrave model.

This old Empire Foot Knight will be used as a Templar a nice simple quick colour scheme and it looks rather good. While Templars wouldn't be a first choice for a starting warband most of my more basic troopers are in the garage or haven't been undercoated and I've always liked these models.

While I originally brought this beasty to use as a 6mm Death Elemental It'll also find a use in Frostgrave as one of the various forms of ethereal undead which are floating around. Another quick simple scheme.

I've also got another piece for my 6mm fantasy done a Gryphon.

Going to more normal fare here with a few Epic pieces done.

D'zarkan Daemon Prince of Tzeentch

Microworld Werebat done up as Monkeytroll suggested.

Keeping with Chaos I've also based up some Fiend Riders of Slaanesh

Cavalry was a big part of Epic Chaos armies which never made the transition to 40k, bit of a shame really as they'd add some much needed variety to Chaos armies which are rather stale at the moment (3 Hell Turkeys and the rest dosn't need to turn up for what good it''ll do). It also makes them nicely different from the Imperial forces giving them a different tactical dimension.

Finally C Platoon of the 13th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry

SEM Infanttry for the win!

Spent far too much time looking at new toy soldiers on the internet today. I've currently got loads unassembled and unpainted. I've seen the 6 Month Mountain Reduction Programme and am considering doing something similar. The current plan is 10p per 6mm element (e.g. vehicle or squad) based and fully finished. 50p per 28mm Infantryman completed. £1 for Cavalry and £5 for a centrepiece i.e. a Titan, character, vehicle or large scenery piece. I'll start from now which means the last Microworld Games order dosn't count and include this weekend in my total. that gives me currently £1.90 in the kitty hopefully I'll get enough to splurge in the Brigade scale but I have to limit my spending hard with real life issues. Oh and sod it Real Life accomplishments count for a tenner as well

I thought so. Not many people are familiar with the place outside of Norfolk. You'd be familiar with the USAF airforce base at Mildenhall then. I used to go there way back when it was open to the public for July 4th celebrations (why I helped rebels celebrate stealing land from the Brits I don't know). I myself grew up near Wroxham, but eventually jumped the border into Suffolk.

Definitely worked on 2 of the 3 USAF bases over the years. Still miss the Air Fetes at Mildenhall big impressive airshows. Out of interest know a Vallejo Game Colour stockist in the area? I know of several Vallejo Model Colour stockists but nowhere that stocks Game Colour. Been a good week for the kitty but I've expended the first funds on some models. It's now at £34.10 but the first big test the Brigade Models Christmas sale has started. Still haven't finished the ones I brought last year but the South African Armour would go perfectly with my Desert Troopers. Time to get cracking! Will show of more models soon.

Cheers mate.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. So what have I been up to this year. Well for a start nowhere near enough gaming. I've totally moved out of Sheffield and between my MA and sorting out my new house I haven't really looked for another group. I've played only one battle this year. Although at least it was Epic. I've actually brought more rulesets than I've played acquiring Frostgrave, Zombicide and 7TV. I've also got a large backlog of unassembled models something the kitty should help with. Top of the heap in terms of awesome is my 15mm Leviathon Mortis. First kit when I've got my modelling desk set up in my new house.

Project wise I've continued churning out Hrin models for my Imperial Guard and I've also added the forces of the 3rd Witham and the Dresden 8th so the Army Group is beginning to become more varied and the grand all encompassing army of the Imperium I've envisioned. My Epic Chaos has been more neglected but has received some powerful completions recently as have my Orks. Next year I'm going to do something about my backlog of titans and gargants as well. Epic has been going well and will continue to do so.

My only real 28mm army game project my Forces of Nurgle has recovered from the blow of the Age of Sigmar. I'd neglected it badly and still will as a force for Age of Sigmar is concerned, however as a souce of baddies for Frostgrave it has restarted growing. The painting kitty has also helped a lot as they add more funds than an equivalent 6mm batch. The Conclave and Cults of Hrin will remain neglected as I lack interest in GW games. Equally supplementing my Admech forces with true Skitarii would be awesome if it weren't for the fact I have other things I'm more interested in spending the money on.

Personally the project I'm technically most worried about is After the Cataclysm. It is the most reliant on a close knit gaming group and I really want to move ahead with it. It's the one I'm most choosy about who to introduce as well. Equally I've finished both my Human and Centaur armies with a large if not complete Undead Army as well. My next ToEG will be Lizardmen and they are exquisite sculpts.

I've also started four new projects this year.

The Star Fleet lacks a ruleset but mehh I like toy spaceships and I'll just work out a way to shoehorn them into whichever is my gaming groups preferred set of space battle rules. Painting and collecting they've been going great guns I'm glad to say. Maybe an opposing force from GZG will arrive at some point in the future.

Pulp Gaming. I've acquired some models for this from North Star and a ruleset. I've also got the Malifaux Through the Breach set which combine alright with my Dystopian Legion laddies for a 35mm steam punk set. Ahother project on the backburners until I acquire victims.

Zombicide. Not technically a stand alone project as everything done for it can also join my Frostgrave or Warhammer collections. Equally I'll be using it as a gateway drug. I work on Away work with colleagues a fair amount and a game like Zombicide is easily brought along with me and is easy entertainment for a bored group. It should also lead on nicely to...

Frostgrave. The Zombicide boards provide easily transportable terrain. I'm painting plenty of appropriate miniatures and enjoying myself. The beasties are proving excellent fun to paint and I'm planning on getting stuck into a proper board for it when I move into my new home. That'll put some stuff on hiatus as I get sorted out but it'll give me some great new opportunities.

Next year main plan is to find a new gaming group and then start entering some events, I rather fancy a Frostgrave campaign day in the near future. Model purchases? Nothing now until Salute except for some Bases. After all I've got the rest of my Zombicide gear, Reaper Cav and the large Brigade Order to arrive. At Salute I'll be looking for some more Beasties for Frostgrave and some Wizards and Apprentices as well as 6mm.

More Frostgrave Stuff an Imp

Nurglings are excellent for this. Looking at using the Spirit Host for something similar as well.

My first Wizard as well.

Fairly happy with the character rural hayseed but far more competent than he first appears. The Seagull was purely because thats what the bird looks like and everybody has a Raven! It gives him a coastal theme. So I'm looking for an unpretentious coastal sounding name, any suggestions?
