I play Cryx and generally I plop them down and get a bad reaction from people. Even in tournament play some people will complain. I was thinking of picking up LoE as a 2nd faction to play, and knowing little about them other than I like the models, do they get the same reaction, or are they considered a "fair" faction to play?

If you're trying to avoid a bad reaction, Legion is not the faction to play. They're like the Cryx of Hordes.

Please, every faction has great models that will get those that are unprepared to complain. This game requires you as a player to learn not only what your models do, but also every other factions. From there, the game rewards you for knowing these things and not making any mistakes.

Some people would just rather complain than try to improve their games. Ignore them and play what you like.

People will gripe almost equally about LoE as they do about Cryx.

It's the nature of any spoiler faction. It's really nothing more than griping, but people have built it up in their heads that the factions are broken. It's usually said by most competitive players in jest.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Legion isn't broke, but they are very annoying because they "cheat" and ignore most of the rules.

Even though you do pay for the Pathfinder and Eyeless Sight, its still a very very powerful combo which is a huge advantage. It ignores a lot of defensive tech and makes terrain irrelevant for your movement.

And they pay for this by having the lowest damage output and "squishiest" beasts in the game.

They're far from having low damage output or the squishiest beasts.

They pay for it by paying double digits for their heavies.

I like how everyone will say Warmachine-Hordes is a very well balanced game but then complains about Cryx and Everblight.

There's always something to complain about. Its still very well balanced(but doesn't mean its perfectly balanced)

Also, the game has a bunch of Rock-Paper-Scissors matchups. Certain things are hard counters for other certain things. Cryx and Everblight have some Hard Counters built right in.

If someone thinks Everblight or Cryx are outright broken factions, then they should play them and win all the tournaments right?

Fortunately thats not how it works. You hear the same complaints all the time but only from newer players or those who refuse to learn how to play against it. There is an answer for everything if you know where to look.

As a Legion player I'll tell you that DEF 11 ARM 18 is not durable AT ALL. My beasts die to a stiff breeze and anytime I make a mistake I pay a huge price for it. Things are made worse by having low model count armies due to being able to run Beast Heavy lists efficiently. Most Legion lists have little to no buffers and it requires a very strong knowledge of threat ranges on your own side as well as the opponents to get the most out of each of your beasts, which is necessary for victory.

As stated above, everyone has their toys and if you are struggling against a list or faction then I'd say its time to play against it a lot more, learn its weaknesses and exploit them.

Things Legion is not a big fan of overall: High Def (All of our beasts are MAT 6), Threat Ranges 13" +, High powered Boostable guns, Sturdy Infintry spam, High armor skews.

Yes we have answers to all of those problems, but not in every list and not even in every pairing. Trolls vs Saeryn isn't that bad of a match. She brings no dmg buffs and relies on her feat to chew through their list. Warders give her fits. Also, Trolls have the Pyre animus which makes their already sturdy models immune to most of our high powered firepower (Ravagore for example). Their Kriel stone also removed continuous fire effects, the armor from it we can not ignore or remove and the Elemental Communion from the Earthborn is a sneaky ARM buff on a stick that Wraithbane from the Naga doesn't ignore.

The thing I dislike is that I love board control with my lists, yet legions ignores my clouds, the forests I pop up, the Artifice of deviation I put down. It is exceedingly annoying to see my favorite list just fall.

Epic irusk, the old witch, harbinger and epic Haley pop feats and laugh. Legion ignore terrain, clouds and Los. They don't ignore bullets or feats. There are other ways to control and deny. Plus there are ways of removing eyeless sight.n

Plus there is the butcher3 with the ultimate control feat - anything that ends its activation within 16" dies.

Are legion or cryx broken? Certainly not.

I play both!

Warmachine MK2 was my first venture into the unknown world of non-GW wargames and I picked up Cryx purely based on the look of the Battlebox, it was a toss up between them or Khador but as I had a huge BA army I wanted to go something other than "the red ones!"

I've done alright with them but I definitely don't consider them OP. I've been hammered enough times for that!

I've recently picked up Legion as we wanted to try Hordes and while its true that I've had more success with them so far this is mainly down to having more experience of the rules and we're also doing a 4 way "tale of" type thing so the limited options available to everyone means no one has been able to unleash any uber combos yet!

Oh i will mention that I actually wanted Circle but a mate wanted them more so I ended up with Legion from the 2 player box... I did tell him that they are considered by a lot of peeps to be the Cryx of Hordes.... his reply was "I dont mind playing against Cryx, it's just that bloody Deneghra!"

This is the truth, here. Even Scyrah has been winning recently, and they were considered (narrowly) at the bottom of the factions. A few updates fixing major issues and they compete just fine without being OP. All the factions have things that are tough, and the fact that it isn't always the same faction winning speaks volumes. Play Everblight and have fun. You will still get beaten by better players, and you will still beat worse players.
