Ok, so I'm a special snowflake, and unless I especially like the official model for a specific unit, I will normally look elsewhere, either within the range or other manufacturers, for some, thing more to my liking.

Normally, my thought process is "I want to field X unit, what mini/minis shall I use to represent it?" But I've been coveting this fella...

Ever since I first saw him.

Now, being a daemons player, I can obviously tart myself around wrt models, as it is arguably fluffier to have as few duplicates as possible in an army as possible, while in reality, it just means I get to buy and paint a greater variety of awesome stuff.

Now, the three candidates I think this makes a suitable alternate for are either a) a Bloodthirster b) a daemon prince (too big?) or c) a Soul Grinder. Most of my existing GDs are FW scale, so neither me nor my regular opponents have a huge issue with larger models, but I do try and keep things appropriate within my own collection.

I haven't just made this a poll for this one thought, as I'd like to open it up, if anyone else has a model they would like to use in their army, but are stuck for an idea as to what, feel free to chip in!

I don't have much knowledge of chaos demons, but I could totally see that enraged cow-bat being a bloodthirster .

Also, if you like alternate models, you might want to look at this guy. I just wish he wasn't way too huge for a counts-as Typhus. A demon prince would be a good fit for him I think.

I haven't got any free Nurgle DP slots (have 3 already) and he'd have to be, with a scythe and a skull!

I'll bear it in mind though, as I'm currently adding a small allied CSM contingent, and we all know how these "small" side projects go!

I'm with you on BT, I think it's between that and Soul Grinder (probably similar volume overall, and the same slightly biomechanical feel) it's too big to be plausible for a DP I think.

Its not really vehicleee enough to be a fiend or a grinder imo

Seems more inclined to be a DP, or the large chaos spawn from FW or the FW big spined beast thing.

It's too big to be a spawn, I chose the pic with the running away for scale guy in it on purpose, this ones a big one! He does have more biological and less mechanical than the official SG, true, but if I out him down on the table and said "this here's a Soul Grinder with the Mark of Khone" you'd struggle to remember?

I'd say he looks like he should be a bloodthirster. He's got the wings for it, and cows are not known for their ranged attacks (unless you consider flatulence to be such). I guess it could work as a Soul Grinder, but it doesn't have the mechanical fusion that defines them. The lack of ranged weaponry is somewhat mitigated by the fact that its ranged attacks are from its mouth. If you went that route I'd suggest adding some greenstuffed slaver around the mouth to indicate the Mawcannon. But I must reiterate that I think the Bloodthirster would be a much fluffier substitution.

On a related note, a while back I was lamenting that there was never a Cyberdemon model kit (from Doom) because that would make such a fantastic Soul Grinder.

Also, pretty sure the Spawn he was referring to was this, which is much closer in size and has its own rules as a Greater Spawn. There's also this, which is another nice super-sized demon unit.

I agree on Bloodthirster, it just seems fitting.

On the topic, I have always loved this model, as it is just nothing short of disturbing. What would be accurate for him? A DP?

Would make a fantastic C'tan. Or a tzeentch/slaanesh DP working with Night Lords CSM. You know, all that scaring the crap out of people fetish and such.

@Azreal: Bloodthirster to me. If you want even more awesome, cobble together some kind of saddle, do a little GS work, and have a Demon Prince riding it. At that point, you could use it as whatever the hell you wanted an everyone would be too amazed to complain!

@Ashiriya: I'd use that as a C'tan (Shard or Transcendant). Failing that, maybe a Demon Prince.

I'm thinking Bloodthirster. You could probably get a Bloodletter or Herald from the Skull Cannon to sit on top quite nicely.

What do people think of the Incarnate Elemental of Fire as a GD of Tzeentch? I'm thinking it would look sweet in an army of Flamers/Screamers and Chariots but was unsure how oversized it is.

Like I'm not even sure I could get it to fit on the appropriate 60mm base. Then again GD's might end up moving up in size if they ever get a plastic kit.

I think that'd be awesome as a GD, especially with a blue flame scheme on it. I'd suggest adding a chaos icon or two, such as on the tip of the staff, though.

Yep, absolutely awesome LoC, but probably needs wings to be WYSIWYG.

So, welcome to my world, the world of finding things you like, and then needing to figure out how to attach wings, what style of wings (bat or bird?) and where to get them from!

I almost think it would be easier to convert the legs slightly, perhaps just the right leg, so that it looks like it is floating or that it can hold itself aloft with ethereal fire. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to believe or easily identify.

I'm now seriously considering buying this over the Thanatar. I've had lots of Daemon stuff floating around in limbo for ages and now that I'm looking at this again I'm think it could be the piece that ties everything together...

Dammit Azrael! I'm blame you and not my own feeble/easily distracted mind! On the plus side it'll allow me time for FW to get a lot more Mechanicum units out. God dammit...

I think what was referred to was the bigger FW variant

And the http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/GIANT-SPINED-CHAOS-BEAST.html

Due to the wings I personally think it would work best as a Bloodthirster/Khorne DP.

You could use the Bull Centaurs as DP's. They have the same kind of beards as the Blood thirster alternate head IIRC.

Elemental ordered... Such plans... just as planned...
