It is pretty interesting. The most notable thing to take away is that army creation is governed by historic formations (not surprising as it is a historic game) and balance is achieved through scenarios and not army points. This means you can play balanced games with different sized armies. I have a rule book on the way, so hopefully I will be able to see what that means in practice soon. The minis are metal and look really nice for 15mm.

Looks interesting. I skipped it first time around as I wasn't sold on the rules. This time I'm hesitant due to the lack of information. It's all there somewhere on the interwebs, but it's not on the kickstarter page and it's a bit off putting.

What information are you looking for? they are really good about answering questions on the KS. The team is taking shifts so there is someone there all the time (though less this weekend due to historicon).

There is a big update schedule for next week in terms of the addons that will be available.

As it stands the kickstarter is great for those who are already customers. I don't really want to have to jump to a previous kickstarter page for information on Skirmish or Big sets and how many you need to play the game.

All you need is the skirmish set to play the game, this can be expanded out to fill out the regiment in any number of ways. There are .pdfs on the company's website that show how this is done. Anything at the corporal level or higher you will have enough to play the game.

I wouldnt go to their previous kickstarter page, just go to the game's website. That is what i have been reading.

To play at the division level you need 3-4 regiments (depending on the organization of the division).

Let me know if you have any questions, I am slowly figuring all this out for myself. This will be my first historic game.

I supported the first KS. The book and figures are excellent. The folks involved in the game seem like genuinely good people who are very into making the best game possible.

That said, $60 equivalent for the expansion rulebook with $50 shipping is just too rich for my blood. I'll wait for retail and pick it up at Sgt. Major (who I think is their only US distributor now).

Anyone can review the rules?

here is a link to a fairly comprehensive review of the rules:
http://anatolisgameroom.blogspot.com/2011/12/with-fire-and-sword-rules-review-part-1.html

That site also has a lot of unboxing and general information on the game.

I am going in for a number of the minis, so the shipping cost hopefully will amortize out.

In for the doubles with a mate again. Shipping does bite to AUS, but we have to order it O/S anyway, so either pay now, or pay later <shrug>

It is pricier that their last one, though a little more is added in

There should be more information regarding specific box set contents and such soon.

Spent pretty much the majority of Historicon with Konrad at the booth. This is definitely one of my top games at the moment. A lot of core mechanics are similar to other similar games such as DBA, FOG, Warmaster, etc, but it has some innovative approaches to army construction and command/control.

Oh my god I saw this game at Historicon and the figures were fantastic, the rulebook is like 2 inches thick and full color and just absolutely beautiful. Plus, winged hussars.

My brother and I are going in on this KS, definitely.

the latest KS update has lots of good information for those new to the game, and lots of links consolidated in one place.

I still think they should have a lot more information on the kickstarter page but I guess consolidated links will have to do.

Does anyone know how this KS is in terms of making substitutions? For example, my wife and I would probably want to go in for the 200pound set (IE, everything x2) but that ends up with us having extra rulebooks, mugs, etc... that would be better off being a core-rule-book.

So to those with actual experience with the rules... would this system be a good first foray into historicals? We've never left our comfort zone of 28mm fantasy/sci-fi gaming, and I feel like it might be nice to switch up scale and style once in a while.

Last kickstarter they offered a lot of substitution options. In general I have found them very easy to work with and they answer questions quickly.

As for the rules (I have not played myself), people seem to enjoy them quite a bit. The only part (seemingly) that will be vastly different from traditional wargaming is army creation as this is based on actually army organization during the time period.

Under the downloads section they have a .pdf called "using army lists" that explains how to build an army. It is a bit different that what I was used to, but it looks really interesting. http://www.fireandsword.wargamer.pl/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder&Itemid=78

Can't speak to the rulebook substitution, but you might be better off doing one of the other levels since you only need one rulebook, and the rulebook is a pretty hefty amount of the $$-wise aspect. You can easily swap two box sets or four blisters for another starter skirmish box (although you don't NEED the starter skirmish boxes to play - you could make a force without them).

The rules are fantastic. It's currently at the top of my games at the moment. If you've played Warmaster (or to a lesser extent WFB) you'll have a lot of the core mechanics down. There's a lot of complex rules, but they are pretty intuitive.

I am loving the new add ons, just picked up the two special skirmish sets: Gosiewski foray and Erik Jönsson’s recon group.

Now I am patiently (read impatiently) waiting for my rulebook and RON skirmish and Swedish Skirmish to arrive from Poland so I can start recruiting some players locally before the kickstarter ends!

Hey folks,

This is an absolutely awesome game. Anyone with an interest in the period, or an interest in WFB/Warmaster/FoG style games should absolutely check it out.

A few of us are planning on doing some open gaming of it at GenCon on Thursday night around 7ish, and I'm more than happy to give demos if anyone is interested - I'll have Swedes and Poles with me!

Very exciting! I am slowly digesting the rule book and I am loving what I have read so far! I will be starting to do a few demo games with some of the other people who are looking to get into the game in our area.

I am sort of excited for this because the Empire from warhammer Fantasy really got me into Pike and Shotte tactics. Now, why can't we have a 15mm Fantasy game? Am I right guys?

Still in this one for a quid. Miniatures look nice so might pick some up assuming I can using the pledge manager, however not sold on the rules and I still feel any information about the game is hard to get or strangely presented.

I just got my rulebook from Poland. Let me know if you have any questions about the rules Zond. They are quite good in my opinion.

The coolest part is that the forces do not need to be the same cost to play a balanced game.

I see that this has just gone through the £35k stretch goal unlocking the Transylvanian Comitatus Cavalry, next stretch goal is at £37.5k and is the Holy Roman Empire Infantry Regiment.
.
Also Wargamer.pl also introduced a new backer level yesterday of 'Cautious Gambler' that will be sure to be popular.
