Hi All, i've decided to make a thread about an upcoming project i'm going to be doing. Essentially the idea is to make a war gaming board (sculpted) designed to be a replica of "springvale" from fallout 3, so far i've decided on the following:
size: 6ft by 4ft is most likely, maybe 4ft by 4ft.
Style: A fully sculpted, non modular board, e.g. one piece.
what will be covered: I think it'll go from the vault, to the school. So it'll cover the entire immediate area as seen in game.

I've wanted to do a fallout project for a long time now, and I think spring vale is a place that really captures the post-apocalyptic theme of the game.

for those with no clue what i'm on about, i've attached some images of said site below.

I'm going to get a plan for the board drawn up tonight, noting exactly what to cover.

Any tips, based on the photos of materials I should use for the buildings etc?

Thanks,

Henry!

Looks like a good idea, I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

I'd go for actual wood for the buildings: a strong type for the supporting structure and something light for the rest. (and if you're really brave, you can create the damage with a blowtorch )

1400 points of EW/MW Italians (FoW)
2200 points of SoB and Inquisition (40K)
1000 points of orks (40K)
Just starting out with Ultramarines (30K)
Four 1000-2500 point forces for WHFB (RIP)
One orc team (Blood Bowl)

A good but somewhat time intensive way to make wood structures is to take a strong flat surface, cut your building shapes out of it, then glue flat wooden coffee stirrers to it. You can probably get a gross of those cheap in a big box or restaurant supply store.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

So basically, I went on the game , toggled free cam and went really high up, got a nice aerial view of the what the boards going to incorporate

Off to the hardware storer tomorrow for paint and wood. Oh and lots of foam!

I've set myself a budget of £50 for this ( I already have a lot of paint etc.)) so it'll be cool to see how it turns out.

My only concerns are the water tower and rocket petrol station thing. Any ideas?

For the Water Tower check out O scale Train pieces. im sure they will have one.

seems the whole thing can be easily made with a lot of Popsicle sticks and some glue. good luck

Edit: Also if you have seen some of the other fallout blogs here, i think they use random "Cars" Cars for the cars.....

Various train hobbies will have signs and benches. perhaps even fences.

i hear S or O scale is right.
