I had a really random idea I've been toying with for a while now and want to throw it out there and see what feedback i can get.
Anyways... Here goes, I was looking for inspiration on what terrain I should build, (standard ruins are starting to get really boring for me,) so i decided to open it up to the World Wide Web (DAKKA). Being relatively new to DAKKA I wanted to see what kind of response this would get.
In short, I thought we could all pool our ideas together as a community and come up with some cool designs and plans for a piece or set of terrain, then i could build said item, constantly keeping you (the designers) up to date with the project. Then whack it on eBay. What do you think about that? This piece could be anything you know, A modular table, Ruins (argh), train station, waterfall, castle, shanty town shack complete with pimped out interior. Let me know your ideas, hopefully we can all come up with something together, something that we all think is cool and we can all contribute too. I suppose it's kind of like getting a commission done, but with the whole of DAKKA able to contribute to your idea.
What the plan is (assuming i get the feedback required) to have plenty of images from each stage, planning, building, painting, etc, and try to communicate everyone's ideas into the initial sketches and then into the model. I will keep uploading pics as well as everyone chipping in their ideas and adjustments during the build. And who knows you could be the one purchasing the end result. I will try to get everyone's ideas together, however it does mean we have to work as a team.
A couple conditions:
- Preferably i would like to sell the item on to make back costs on materials so no super specific items or completely obscure, I was thinking maybe 40K just as that seems to be most popular but hey if the public calls for something else then who am i too say no?
- Postage for the item might be a pain so you know not a 12x6 apocalypse table (although it could be modular... hmm.). But i do have some large 600mm, 2Ft, cube cardboard boxes for packaging.
- Materials need to be reasonable (No golden fortresses), I have access to basic tools and materials, plenty of insulation boards/foam.
- My timescale is modest however I don't plan to spend months on one thing, I always prefer smaller with better detail, but again I may be persuaded otherwise. Also the quicker I get this one done the quicker I can start another community project.
Hopefully this will get everyone together and thinking and we can have some laughs along the ways.
Thanks for your time and let me know what you think.
