Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Hello all.
I've put up a few of my Knights before, but decided to put up a lot more of my collection. I collect just about every 40k army, so there's a lot of stuff in my collection I've completed over the years.
I'll add pictures from time to time, both of old projects and new.
Painting is a continuous learning process, so I keep working with different techniques and ideas all the time.
Hopefully ya'll like it, can give advice, or maybe can be inspired.
Let's start it off with a "gift" from Papa Nurgle himself, a FW Great Unclean One!
This was an awesome model to paint; so much blending and the viscera was a lot of fun to work with. This model is a solid chunk of resin, so if I had to defend myself from a "frothing neckbeard" (heard this term on Dakka, made me laugh a bit) at a tournament, hopefully this guy would be nearby!

I've put these up as seperate posts, but wanted to throw these into the showcase; My three House Griffith Imperial Knight Titans.
These were a blast to assemble and paint. I used a lot of taping off for clean lines. I got lucky and snatched up 5 of the limited run transfer sheets since the decals were going to be important.
I wanted these models to appear like they had been slogging through the grit and grime of a war-torn world, much like the DKoK in Siege of Vraks.
The base with the crater on it was done by Dragon Forge Design; the other bases were made of various bits (like the side of a chimera), cork, plasticard, and some etched brass. I made the sandbags using super sculpy firm; I think they look ok, but I get better results with green stuff.
Posing of two of the Knights was important; I wanted them to all be a little different so that I didn't have too much static posing within the formation. It's a little nerve wracking tearing apart vital parts (legs, feet) of a model that costs $140, but it all worked out in the end and I was pleased with the results.
Again, really enjoyed working on these, and glad they have their own formation they can use to wreak havoc on the tabletop!

How about some Space Marine stuff?
These are a couple of Stalkers I knocked out one evening, mainly to use as either Salamanders or Iron Hands rules-wise. So they're from the Iron Drakes chapter of Space Marines.
I didn't go too much into detail or weathering with these, just wanted a nice tabletop standard that could be achieved fairly quickly.
Thanks for viewing!

Chaos Blight Drone.
Always loved this model, and I use them as Obliterators (which is a horrible model, IMHO) in my CSM army.
This was one of my first experiments with satin varnish, and I used it to achieve a greasy look, since it's well, Nurgle.

Great job, but those light effects look a little bit misplaced. For me It doesnt look like something is glowing. Maybe ist the color, but I think if you paint some brighter Areas into the center it should be much better.

Next up are a couple of Vendettas I did a few years ago. They turned out alright for me at the time, but now are a little below my current standard.
This is before I learned how to apply decals in a more effective way, so there's some "decal edging" that you can see.
In person, they're a good tabletop standard and people like them a lot (well, until in-game when they keep shooting them down).
These are also some of the first models I did using the FW weathering powders.
The triple lascannons are pilfered from some Land Raider kits.

Here we have the "Anti-Heroes of the Imperium", or, some CSM. Painted these a while back.
All my CSM stuff has the "glowing" green eyes for some visual pop and to give them a possessed aura. As one astute poster noticed I need to work on some brightness toward the center of my OSL, which should be an easy fix that I may tackle in the future.
Two versions of Typhus. One stock, one converted.
One Nurgle Dreadnought I "rescued" from ebay and repainted.
A converted 40K Nurgle Lord using the fantastic WFB model.
A Nurgle Lord on Bike (w/ PF; the banner is my Burning Brand of Skalathrax that's been Nurgle-ized)
And The Tyrant of Badab himself, Huron Blackheart.

Good evening!
Here we have a Riptide. I used a lot of OSL effects, and I think they turned out ok. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the armor has a mottled effect, which was achieved by priming the model black, and then using an airbrush to apply large crosshatches of skull white. After that, a coat of turquoise was laid over the entire model, which creates some alternate bands of lighter and darker turquoise.
Painting Tau is always interesting, because they're one of those armies that can look really good weathered or unweathered. I do a lot of Imperial Armies, and tend to go heavy on weathering, because GRIMDARK.
But, I digress. This was a fun model to build, and the shield and all weapon options are magnetized, although I haven't gotten around to painting up the heavy burst cannon.

Really digging the sang gaurd, after painting some for a work mate, the gold really doesn't suit them however your scheme does wonders for them.
I do hope they get better in the new release....

Appreciate the kind words, especially from a painter of your caliber.
Yeah, I have a squad of Sanguinary Guard I want to do in gold, I just haven't gotten to it. I was going to go burnished gold armor with purple tinged wings. Very...royal.
I have a squad that I need to get pics of that I did in black with red wings. Very devil vs. angel when on the same table as the silver guys above.
These were done a while ago when the models were first released, so I think my skills have gotten a lot better; I can already tell I'm going to need to re-base these guys.
Thanks again!

A Land Raider Redeemer I painted, from about 4 years ago.
A lot of things I could've done better here, but I've learned a lot since then.
1. Decals poorly applied (before I learned how to do it right)
2. Inconsistent washing (before i started running wash through an airbrush)
