Most toy shops? Thought it was designed for Matchbox car scale? Or am I getting confused with Dark Future?

1" long, 0.5" wide?
I don't know, I spend my entire life in a darkened room living off instant noodle soup.

Hmm, sounds like HO / 00 scale (Approx 1/87 - 1/100) is pretty close. Model railway suppliers? Most of those are sort of 50's era looking cars and stuff though.
Edit: Calling BS on myself. N scale is closer to what you want.

N gauge was typically used for Car wars.
At tournaments and cons back in the 80s and early 90s, it wasn't uncommon for them to "upscale" for demo/participation games and use HO/OO scale "matchbox" cars for the task, though.
Similar to the scale that GW used for Dark Future (and I'm betting it's because Renedra did their plastics back then - and their other big plastic toy contract was with "Matchbox" cars (they did the interior plastic parts).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Will scour local model shops for suitable N gauge models.
I have found a packet of Henbrandt fun snaps, and am thinking of using them to attempt to detonate cars for wreckage. Any idea whether this will work?

I'd highly recommend playing it in matchbox/hot-wheels scale (aproximatel 20mm). Lots of cheap cars available and there are folks like Stan Johansen that sell minis, mod kits, etc in that scale.

If you want stuff closer in size to the card stock cut out I'd say try micro machines. These work really well for gaming in a smaller space
If you step up slightly matchbox or hot wheels are good options although it increases the space you'll need.
Ebay for any of those types.

Ramshacle is nice stuff and NucRen is a great game, but it's all 28mm. Playing Car wars in 28mm would require a hujungous table!
