Greetings STAW Experts - I need some advice.

I have a buddy coming over on Friday for some Flight Path fun. We have been playing X-Wing but given we are both also Star Trek fans I thought about introducing him to Attack Wing. I have the first wave ships but have never really played or even made a list.

My question is: given what I have (all of Wave 1 including two starter sets and GenKhan), what would be a good scenario to try out?

IMHO, the best scenario for new players to start with is "Destroy the Scimitar" that comes with the Valdor expansion. It is a cooperative mission where 2-3 players work together to destroy a rogue Romulan ship. It is very fun and is challenging.

The Kobiyoshi Maru that comes with the USS Enterprise is also fun. You just have to realize that it is heavily weighted to the Klingons. However I like the challenge of playing against over whelming odds. It goes fast though, so both players can try both sides in a short period of time.

You may not have this one but "Destroy the Outposts" from the Gal Gathong expansion is fantastic. it is a simple but fun scenario. 45pts vs 45pts the Romulan player has to destroy 2 outposts and escape off his board edge. A lot of this scenario is "who will make the gutsy move first". My buddy and I played this 4 times in one night, lots of fun. You can play it with any ship not just the ones from the rules.

If you guys get more involved with the game it can be a lot of fun to try different ships in the scenarios. Kobiyashi Maru is a lot of fun with the Defiant vs Jem H'dar Fighters.

I saw this on Youtube. I can't remember where the rules are for it. There is a planet where your "Captain" beams down to collect Dilithium Crystals. You need to collect the most Crystals and leave the board to win. So it's not just a Straight Shoot them up. Can be if you want, but there is another objective in order to win.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

@Baldrick: Who flies the Valdor? Is it "programmed"? Also, how many Klingon ships does one need for the Kobyashi Maru?

@Davor: I somewhat remember that scenario as well but also can't remember from where.

The Valdor has 4 little tokens that you turn face down and mix up, 3 say echo and 1 says actual.

You mix them up face down, put 1 on each side and flip them over to see which direction it goes. It will move a 3 straight in the direction with actual on it. if a direction would take it off the board just don't put one down in that spot.

The scenario Davor is talking about is "New Source of Dilithium" it is in the rule book.

The Kobayashi Maru is a great intro game.

You play the Enterprise and can quite easily have 2 other players play Klingons. As the odds are against you, your opponents feel they've got a good chance at kicking your rear - which, if you're me, they do. It also introduces the scenario play, the Enterprise isn't usually the one doing much of the shooting either, plus the scenario shows how important actions / upgrades can be.

It is worth being not too jerkish on Kirks secret upgrades though.
