I'm going to a 1000 point event, which by its very nature encourages crazy wacky over-the-top list design.

And with the new Undead Legion stuff sweeping the scene, I busted out my Tomb Kings.

Half my list is fairly well decided:

Tomb Prince
Chariot, Flail, Shield
Armour of Silvered Steel (2+ save)
Dragonbane Gem (for skull cannons)

7x Skeleton Chariots
Banner, Musician
(Banner of Swiftness if points allow)

Question is, what else to take?
I have a few ideas.

Idea 1:
3x Sepulchral Stalkers, 1x Necrosphinx
Stalkers and Necro can hit people in the back, go for character assassinations, that sort of thing. Stalkers deal with high armour enemies fairly well when they arrive, and the Necrosphinx is a great character and monster assassin. They can both stay near the general for marching, too.

Idea 2:
Warsphinx (Fiery Roar), Casket of Souls
the Casket gives me something to do with my magic dice, although I think it will only really get to shoot at single targets. A Warsphinx will be able to mince massed infantry, although will probably struggle against anything it can't stomp - which is what the Chariots will go into.

Idea 3:
Spirit Host, Spirit Host, 3x Sepulchral Stalkers
I see the Spirit Hosts moving alongside the chariots to protect their flanks from charges, especially once the chariots get into combat. The stalkers can come up in the backfield and do their thing with warmachines and cavalry and whatnot, and also block a charge if they have to.

I think all three have some merit... but which one do I do? Gotta decide fast - I've got 3 weeks to paint whichever option I go with

Happy to accept critique on the Prince's magic items, too.

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

Shield is pointless for 3 reasons:
1. cannot parry when mounted, this applies to chariots IIRC
2. flail is 2 handed so shield cannot be used
3. shield cannot improve armour save of the Armour of Silvered Steel

7x Skeleton Chariots
Banner, Musician
(Banner of Swiftness if points allow)

Looks good to me.

IMHO, idea 2 everyday of the week, for pretty mush the reasons you have explained. gives you a magic phase and warkittys are boss. i would also consider Necro knights if you have the models/time to paint them.

lastly, rough points values from memory suggest to me you won't be able to afford a banner for the chariots in order to afford everything else but not a massive problem at all.

Hope this helps

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

If you're going with option 2, drop the Tomb King for Arkhan. Then you can get all the models you need to support your army, in addition to your army.

I don't like tomb king chariot characters. The only reason to take a combat character is the destroyer, and that's a model on foot.

You're better off with a high priest, especially now you don't need a hierophant. Light magic solves all the army's problems.
