Hey guys, this is my first Space Marine list which I'm looking for some advice/guidance on from some experienced players.

I treated myself to the strike force so I do have a few models left over, including a Razorback, DropPod and a Scout Squad, however I'm not sure how to full the remaining 330 points. Here is the list:

HQ Librarian + Psyker Mastery 2 + Terminator Armour (115)

x10 Tactical Marines + Missile Launcher & Flamer (160)

x10 Tactical Marines + Missile Launcher & Flamer (160)

x5 Terminators + Cyclone Missile Launcher + x2 Chainfists (235)

x10 Assault Marines + x2 Plasma Pistol + Power Fist (225)

Venerable Dreadnought + Twin Linked Lascannon (150)

Vindicator (125)

TOTAL: 1,170

I was tempted to get a Flyer in there, probably more inclined to take a a Raven for the durability; my ultimate army goal.

Much criticism welcome!

Thanks

Do you own the non-strikeforce models in the list? Or is more of a build-towards list? If you are just stating out, figure out where you want to be and built towards that. There are a lot of different ways to build a marine army, you need to find the one that works for you.

You are right to want a flyer. They are a good, solid, source of AA, and while not the meanest things in the sky, are reasonably good at their job. The talon is lighter, cheeper, and takes the often less contested FA slot. The raven is bigger, tougher, packs some nasty guns and has a cargo capacity you can use. The HS spot can fill up fast in a lot of marine lists.

You are going to want to include your pod and razor. One of the major aspects of 40k is getting units to objectives and keeping them there, either to score them quick (maelstrom) or until the end of the game. Fooslogging is not the best choice to get troops where they need to be.

One thing that the strikeforce is a little light on is anti tank fire. One thing you might want to include is a little melta. My two stock tac squads are ML/F and MM/M c-melta. ML/F squads are traditional marine jack of all trades ones, they are not a bad call. But you might want to specialize a little. If you haven’t picked up a devestator box, you might want to consider it. If not for fielding heavy weapon teams, but for expanding the options available for your tactical squads.

I like the assault cannon on the terminators, but the CML can work. Having at least one chainfist is a good call.

Plasma pistols, while cool, are overpriced. I think you would be better served with flamers on your assault squad. Powerfists are also very pricy on a 1 wound model. I might take a power weapon and a melta bomb instead. Paying the points for the veteran sergeant upgrade here can also pay off well.

Dreads can be a lot of fun, but be careful. They are not as tough as the fluff makes them out to be.

Vindis can put out a lot of pain with the pie plate, but watch your side armor.

I would also suggest that with just a 2W warlord, you may want to pay the paltry 10 points for a storm shield. 10 points to give the guy a 3++ instead of a 5++ is very worth it. EDIT: The extra Invul is especially worth it since it seems the Librarian will be running with the Terminators, who are bound to draw a substantial amount of fire.

Yeah, filling that Drop Pod with combat squads with melta could do some work. The other squad would definitely need a Rhino...
