A lot of you will have realised that GW flying bases suck. This is because the plastic "tether" allows the model to spin around. There is a very simple fix for this:
Take a chunk of blu-tack and cut it up bit by bit.
Roll these up into a sausage shape, and slot them into the place where the "tether" sits.
Tuck them in
Finished!

Gluing flying bases makes transport a nightmare, especially if you have 30 Gargoyles
But I don't like the blutack idea... blutack is a nice temporary fix, it goes yuck after a few months through, loses it's stickiness but is annoying to get off.
A lot of stuff I just magnetise to the flying base and while it can still spin, it's not too bad. My Gargoyles I haven't bothered magnetising because they fit pretty well anyway and they tend not to spin.

For the skimmer vehicles, I make the mounting hole wider
Then snap off the nubbin on top (that usually breaks anyway as that 1cubic mm won't hold that much mass for that long).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

For gargoyles I glue and magnetize the base to a tin sheet for transport. So, so much easier.

I've considered that, but I don't trust magnets for transport for tall/top heavy models. I'm sure if you were careful with the box it'd be fine, but I don't like to do anything that I wouldn't trust to stay secure when emergency braking in my car

I thought GW flying bases mostly have the ball and socket joint now?

For most vehicles/FMC/FC yes. For landspeeders/jetbikes? No.

I beg to differ- you get the ball and socket adapter with the landspeeders as well as Reaver Jetbikes. Not sure about Eldar Jetbikes mind, but again that's a relatively easy fix.

I magnetized all my bases using the following method:
1. take the stem, remove both endings
2. take the flying base, stuff the thin end of the stem as hard as possible without breaking the base (you can put some strength)
3. sand (coarse) the thick end of the stem
4. sand (coarse) one side of the magnet (7x1mm X 2-3 holds falcons / WS / nightspinners / new prisms, 11x1mm x 3 holds a metal fire prism, 6x1mm x2 for Vypers and jetbikes).
5. superglue the magnet to the stem
6. same on the skimmer
And there you go, it's perfectly transportable and never leaves your skimmer once its on the table.
A few notes though, you want to make sure you put all the magnets in the same direction, or you're going to have a bad time every time you unpack your jetbikes.
And if you're using bigger magnets, like the 11mm diameter one I used for the Fire Prisms, you'll want a larger surface area to glue it (the thick end of the stem is about 5mm diameter).
Since I wanted my Skimmers to be fit for the ETC, I snapped the pointy head off of some 35mm philips screws, screwed them into the flyer base, and glued a washer on top, then a magnet.

Glue a short piece of paperclip to the side of the peg on the base, and make a notch on the hole in the model.
