Hi all,
So Kislev is pretty neat. It has bears, fur hats and angry Russians beating down the hordes of Chaos. It is also not currently represented in the game as a playable army, outside of a 5-unit pamphlet way back in 6th Edition. I'd like to propose a small set of alterations that could be made to the Empire Army Book to represent them, in a similar way to the
40k Supplement books. In this case it would aim to change an existing army through key units, rather than create a whole army from scratch.
As a idea:
Kislev. A Warhammer Armies: Empire Supplement
These rules are intended to be an optional twist on the Empire Army Book to more properly represent their northern cousins. In all respects other than those listed below, it follows the same rules and points costs as presented in Warhammer Armies: Empire.
Hatred: Hordes of Chaos: All models in the army
Hate all models from Warhammer Armies: Warriors of Chaos and Daemons of Chaos.
Armies of the North: Cannons, Mortars and Flagellants are considered Rare units. Steam Tanks, Luminarks of Hysh and Helstorm Rocket Batteries may not be taken at all. All existing special characters are unavailable. Units of Knightly Orders, Reiksguard and Pistoliers are unavailable; in their place, players can purchase Winged Lancers, Gryphon Legion and Ungol Horse Archers respectively.
Kislevite wizards: Without access to the Colleges of Magic, Kislev wizards are not as varied as their Empire cousins. Wizards and Wizard Lords are limited to the Lores of Heavens, Shadow, Beasts, Fire and Metal.
Winged Lancers: Units of Knightly Orders must exchange their barding for the Vanguard special rule. In addition, these units cause Fear on a turn that they complete a successful charge. These units cannot exchange their Lances for Great Weapons.
Gryphon Legion: Units of Reiksguard must exchange their barding for the Vanguard special rule. In addition, these units cause Fear on a turn that they complete a successful charge.
Ungol Horse Archers: Units of Pistoliers must exchange their brace of pistols for a Bow. These units are reduced in cost to 17pts per model and are regarded as Core units.
Kossars: Parent units of Halberdiers may be upgraded to Kossars by purchasing a Bow for +1pt per model. Kossars may not purchase Detachments.
Otherwise, the army is regarded as an Empire army. Players may like to refer to units by their proper Kislevite equivalents but they share identical rules to those printed in the Empire book. It is highly recommended that players make great use of Demigryph Knights mounted on bears to represent the feared Sons of Ursun. These units retain their barding to represent the bear's thick coats and slower running speed.
Just as a bit of fun really. I've lately been very taken with the idea of a Kislevite army and while I'll likely just get by with modelling barding on my dudes, it would be nice to have a perfect fit.
And while I am here, a far more thorough set of rules is available from the fine people over at the
Warhammer Armies Project, but mine is intended to be a bit simpler and easier to integrate.
Feel free to rip it to shreds!
