skink priests with warriors and TG with Slann
the slann is loremaster of high magic allowing him to easily swap out spells of little use for more beneficial ones
the skinks are mostly used for buffs and controlling the predatory fighters
a fairly standard list with an abnormal number of skink units
the five sets of ten skinks are only intended for one purpose; distraction.
each of those units is worth seventy points but in a turn or two can easily buy back their points by killing elite infantry and the like, three or four wounds is all it takes. now your opponent has three options, charge the skinks and risk a flank charge whilst waiting one turn what is likely to be a 300 point unit, shoot the skinks drawing fire away from the TG and other important units, or ignore the skinks and prey to the dice gods you roll bad enough not to do much damage

feedback would be great

Skink Priests' base size mismatches with the saurus, so you'd have a weird unit of 23 saurus with a skink attached to the side. Even if they could actually rank up, I'd still say it's a bad place for a skink, waiting to get clubbed down and splurge VP everywhere

So totally bring the saurus up to 24 proper. I'd think about dropping the extra levels on the priests too, how likely are you to use them to cast stuff that isn't Wildform anyway? 9 spells is pretty good as is

Also, not feeling the need to specialize at least one unit of skinks? 5 Camo skinks is a similar cost, and while half the size, having a unit of scouts can be good, not just for killing war machines but controlling enemy deployment in general - forcing tighter and/or more spread out deployment, trumping their scout drops, etc.

ahhh I didn't realise that about the base sizes, so what's the standard way of keeping predatory fighters in check?

err ten spells, high magic has two signature spells =P
but I'll do both those things

I could swap two units to camo skinks as warmachine hunters would probably help, I was relying on my magic for that purpose, plus the extra ten could help somewhere else

what do you think of my magic heavy Slann setup, I think it'll synergies nicely but like I said I'm new to Lizards

Keep your priests nearby-ish? They still get LOS! rolls on a 4+ if within X" of the saurus block (I forget the actual number - less than 6"?), and having just Wildform means they're often skulking behind or so anyway. Or keep a skink unit back for the priests to bunker in, though it makes it a bit of a magic missile target. Or just plan for the auto-pursuit as you would for frenzy troops, either by clearing their way or blocking pursuit with skinks or what have you.

My mistake on the schmancy High Magic spell count

Two camo skinks is indeed better, as both on one machine are more likely to kill it in one go.

Speaking of your Slann set up ...

These are both Arcane Items, aren't they? So the toad can only have one (you probably want the staff to combine with Harmonic Convergence)

Otherwise sure, I dig it. Hearty dispel phase in particular.

Well that frees up another seventy points, maybe I'll take a third skink priest and give it the cloak of feathers and ring of ruin for some easy wounds and emergency predatory control.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Or actually a skink chief for the occasional flank charge

You can but it counts towards your hero points instead of rare which would take it over 25%

Most of the Lizardmen lists I've seen have more Skinks than anything else, so this seems pretty typical.

I'd drop some for Chameleons, Terradons, and/or Rippers, though. Still distractions, but able to bring a different sort of threat to the table.

And 20 Temple Guard just seems woefully small.

This has been errata'd out very recently, for better or worse. You can now take 25-50% Lords and 25-50% Heroes (other requirements / limits remain the same)

How about a solo razordon? Another chaff unit, but of a different flavor, with a different gun and more fighty when charged.
