I'll be shipping my dark eldar. What is the safest way / method for packing a fragile army like that? Thanks!

I get a baking tray that is magnetic, get some rare earth magnets (6x2mm), superglue one to each of the bases of the models, and voila! Easy, cheap storage.

Webway Portal.

Sorry - couldn't hold muself.

The best way is a bauble wrap paired with a 'soft' case. It's time consuming but it's quite safe.

Ask the buyer if he'd like to add a or case or two to the order.
By far the safest way and they'll need it at the other end anyway.

Everyone: No.

With DE stuff...send then money for glue on the other side and bag everything so the spines don't get mixed.

If you want to minimize damage then soft foam works decently (like cases).

I would make sure I baggie everything individually as if there is breakage and the spines get mixed the DE models are irrecoverable. You can also slip small foam pieces or foam peanuts between the spines to support them (or even just impale the pieces).

Magnetizing and trays can also work but if you have the flight bases already glued then you don't try to magnetized the flight base. It will just snap and break everything. You will need to magnetize between the flight base and model.

Bubble wrap each individual model. It's a pain in the rear, but it should do the trick. I've shipped a few armies that way and had no complaints.

Best I have seen is a step more than the metal tray with rare-earth magnets:
Line a full box all sides with 1/2" inch soft foam.
Insert tray with models with rare-earth magnets (or in this case it could be plastic with blue-tac)
Fill with foam peanuts.
They should all be held in place, given a tiny bit of room to move so the delicate spikey bits do not break off as described.
If really paranoid, add five posts, one for each corner and middle and cap off with something solid like another tray or plastic sheet to prevent crush damage.
Best I could think of.

Other than paying for custom cut foam, talizvar has the best idea. Line a box with a bit of foam, put a layer of models down. Then a decent layer of peanuts. Then more models, more peanuts, etc.

The models will shift in transport but the peanuts ought to keep them pretty safe.
