There is not this idea.

So I guess this a tactics question. I'm looking at the lizardmen dinos, and I've decided that I want to get just one, either the Bastiladon or the Stegadon. The Carnosaur is neat looking, but outside of how much I'm willing to spend in one go. I think that they both look pretty neat when it comes to painting, so that's not a worry, I'm just not sure which would be the best fit for my guys.

As of right now, my army consists of skinks and skink skirmishers, a skink priest, and a skink chieftan. So it's pretty dang basic right now. Would either one help or hurt me a lot? Or is it no big deal?

Both are crewed by skinks, so from that perspective neither hurts the all skinks thing you got going.

I'd probably go with an Ancient Steg personally. Bastilodons with the laser beams are usually only taken with Saurus heavy armies.

May not be a massive concern for you but bare in mind that having a single monster in an army is pretty much giving away points. Cannons/bolt throwers/etc are so common nowadays that the best protection you can give a monster is target saturation, ie: other monsters. Multiple stegadons would be ideal!

The Stegadon is probably more in line with your army. The Bastiladon with the solar engine would give your Skinks I5, but this is not really all that useful for them. The stegadon, on the other hand, gives you a combat punch and some more shooting to go with your army.

alex87 is right though, target saturation is key. You'll definitely want at least 2 eventually, but you'll be able to get by with one for a while as well.

I'd go with either the bastiladon or the engine of the gods ancient.

The shooting from a steggadon is laughable.
2D6 S3 shots, that usually need 6+ to hit is pretty useless.
Either of the bound spells (engine of the gods or the solar bast) are far better.

Worth remembering that that's two lots of 2D6 shots, though. One for each blowpipe

And hitting on sixes still means auto-wounding thanks to poison. Matt is right tho. Stegadon shooting ranges from moderately useful-laughably bad.

Man, there's a lot to consider, isn't there? I'm still really new to the actual fantasy game, so it's all helpful and appreciated.

Ok, so, I'm thinking that the stegadon might be the right choice. My main opponent, (ok, my only opponent, at least unless I can get some other people involved) plays Skaven, and I'm thinking based on what you guys have said that the Stegadon would be a bit better at dealing with blocks of infantry?

alex87, yeah, I can see how the big monsters are basically a walking "shoot here!" target. i wouldn't mind having two, but it ain't gonna happen for a while, unless i get a better job, heh.
