Just getting back into 40k after a little while away. I was wondering what are the main armies people are fielding at tournaments/ which armies have become tier 1 armies now? Always have been a space marine player but most of the top 10 after a tournament are comprised of eldar, tau, ig?

Farseer or spiritseer, min dire avengers in wave serpents, 2 wraithknights, jetbikes, fire dragons, Warp spiders/swooping hawks. Take some combination of those and you'll be good to go.

I rate the armies like this

Eldar are in a league by themselves. If all you want to do is win Eldar are the way to go. Tau have a few really strong units and great synergy with all their units to me they seem to be on level with other armies though.Marines are in an okay place. Our bikes are great. Have decent mech power. We have Imperial Knights (a titan you can play in small battles.) Generic Marines, Grey knights, Space wolves, Dark Angels(Ravenwing) are all viable competitive armies that can expect to win games.

Worst armies right now are Tyranids and Chaos Space Marines (feel bad these armies always seem to be lacking.)

Don't be scared to remain marine.

Tyranids just got a buff with drop pods and a 5 flyrant formation. I definitely wouldn't call them the worst army. CSM are definitely bad though. Here's the top 5 in my opinion.
1. Eldar
2. Imperial Knights
3. Necrons
4. Space Marines
5. Chaos Daemons
