It begins! ...for my Blood Angels the timing was right. I was getting sick of my Sanguinary Guard (and Dante) falling over so I decided to make some 32mm resin bases in a manner that I can re-cast them as much as desired.

It went well but I made a lot of mistakes... thanks to the people here that gave advice I got it done however and with the right technique I found it's pretty darn easy. If you want the full run-down check out my blog: http://atticwars40k.blogspot.com/2015/01/how-to-create-your-own-32mm-resin-bases.html

But here is a picture of a finished base:

Looks very nice, the mold captures the detail well.

I assume the resin is substantially heavier than the normal base.

I am tempted to add weights in with the pour especially for top-heavy metal marines with a jump-pack.

I hate slotta bases, I figure this may be the next step for me as well. I assume you will pin the feet of all your miniatures and crazy glue in?

Yeah I'll pin them. Adding weights should be pretty easy and I've thought about doing that to some 25mm bases for my Hormogaunts - basically just weighting one side.

But for plastic jump-infantry the resin base alone, at this size (32mm) is plenty good enough, even for the banner bearer.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have a bag of fishing weights that were super cheap... I planned to use those.

Adding weights... just use coins? A 2pence piece fits a 32mm base with a lil room to spare and weights approx 7grams ; far more than the original plastic bases do.
It would make pinning a pain to do however.

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

On the stock GW 32mm bases that would work, but on the resin bases, adding a weight right into the resin mix should be easy enough. Hormogaunts for example are only heavy on one side (the arms/claws side) so I could add a fishing-weight to one side of the mix during the resin pour... of course then I'll need to mark or remember which side has the weight haha.
