I'm taking the plunge. I'm a 15mm gamer who loves the 40k universe. I love the portability and cost of 15mm miniatures and I'm too cheap (and my fiancé and I are planning a wedding and cross-country move) and so I certainly don't have the money to get into 40k in the traditional way. I'm not an experienced modeler, converter, or even a very good painter so the fact that I'm trying to build an entire wargaming universe by myself is total insanity, but I'm taking it slow and steady. I'm building sisters of battle, chaos, and orks starting with kill teams, moving up to 500 points, and then maybe 1000 points each (although I'd like to add some others to the mix like space marines, IG, and tau). Regardless, I'm going to be working at this for a long time. This is the result of the first couple of days. I've done a fair bit of modelling and just a little bit of painting to practice/figure out paint schemes. I've never painted 40k before and haven't painted anything since July. Also they are quite small (based on US pennies).

The pictures are a tad shoddy. Oops.

I found these looking through some websites

http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=15ALN-109

They are in the US which is a plus, There is plenty of minis that could be easily converted or just left as is.

Good luck and Id like to see more of your work!

Thanks!
What did you have in mind for those guys? I don't really see a 40k connection

I finished some more! I've added to the plague marine numbers, finished two nurgley cultists, painted the inquisitor, 2 DCAs, a crusader, a black legion aspiring champion, a chaos sorcerer with spell familiar, and a chaos lord with mark of nurgle, lightening claws, and combat familiar.

The inquisitor and her retinue don't look that pink in person. They are actually more of a light purple. Also, keep in mind that the paint jobs may look pretty rough but these are very small miniatures and the pictures are at a higher magnification than one would ever actually see them at with the naked eye. They look great (at least for me) on the table top.

Coming down the pipe are more sisters of battle, cultists, plague bearers, and nurglings! As soon as I get more pennies for basing, I'll put together a black legion marine squad.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

The Guys I suggested could be Eldar or Tau with the crest cut off.

I like the Cultists and the Plague Marines, awesome stuff.

What models are you using for the marines, before conversion?

Any Orks in the works?

Keep up the Great work!

Thanks! The marines are Khurasan power armored troops from the post apolyptic range. I plan on using them as black legion chaos and loyalist marines as well. And yes there are irks in the works. I'm waiting on some bits to arrive though. For the orks I'm using fantasy orcs that I'll be converting. I also have a model airplane (ww1 style) that will become a dakkajet. So that's exciting.

Okay yeah. Those are great. I'd heard of them before but not seen them painted. They look great. I'll definitely have to pick some up. I have a new batch of sisters (as well as some retributors converted) and cultists painted (plus some daemons) but I haven't gotten around to posting them yet as work has been very busy over the last couple of days. I'll try to do it soon.

Sorry it's been a while. I've just started my last semester of college so things are pretty busy. However, my horde of cultists is growing (some of them now have black legion colors of black and yellow rather than plague colors) and I have a whole squad of sisters done (except for flamers which I'm currently scouring ebay for). I've also started working on my daemons of nurgle which will be allies of the chaos marines. Any C&C is welcome.

I hope you can forgive the thread necro as it simply doesn't seem sensible to create a new one.

Since my last post I have gotten married, graduated college, moved across the country, and have adopted a kitten and a puppy. Needless to say, its been a very busy few months. I'm back, however, and I hope that I will be able to continue to work on this project for a while now that everything is settled.

Although I have some unfinished SOB retributors and some chaos marines that I had wanted to work on, I wanted to begin my new foray into 40k with something new and fresh. So I have put together and painted a squad of Ultramarines and a small mob of Ork boys. If you're keeping track, that puts me at 6 different forces that I'm working on simultaneously (Inquisitor retinue, Chaos Marines, Daemons, Sisters of Battle, Orks, Ultramarines. I have plans for IG as well...) I'm planning to just get a kill team done for each force (so I can teach my wife to play) before expanding them to 500 points.

Anyway. Here are the photos. Comments and criticism are welcome. If you need a size reference, the models are based on US pennies.

Thanks in advance.

I'm REALLY enjoying working on the orks. I'm almost done with a squad of ten grots and I'm working on a painboy and a squad of ten shooter boys as well. I just finished my warboss. This is the most heavily converted model I've ever done and undoubtedly my favorite. I may add some more detail (and touch ups) to him but he is mostly done. He is armed with a twin-linked shoota and a power claw. He is based on a US quarter.

Something seems to have gone wrong with image attachments and so far I'm not figuring out how to fix it. If a mod could delete this post, I suppose I could just try again. There doesn't seem to be an option to edit or delete the attachments on a post.

You'll need to edit the post on a computer. It doesn't like multiple attachments using mobile devices very much.

Looking very good though!

Making a lot of progress on my ork horde. I have a squad of ten grots and 1 runt herd done, a squad of 9 shoota boys and a boss nob done, a pain boy and a warboss done. My slugga boy squad is missing a couple of boys but I ran out of guns so they will have to wait unfortunately. Right now I'm working on a couple of trukks and a special character that will probably be a weird boy. So far 30 models are finished.
What do you think?

Also I've started a blog on which I will also be posting updates on this project.

I'm almost done with orks for now (except for a couple of trukks perhaps) and I'm going to get back to work on Sisters and Chaos very soon. It seemed like now would be a good time for a big group shot.

Just finished a few of my Imperial Guard/ Confederation Marines (depending on which universe I feel like gaming). I went with a grey color scheme so that I could convince myself that they made some amount of sense in hard sci-fi. But then I threw that out the window with Mars themed bases. Oh well. At least it looks good. More pictures are on the blog.
