So as you know I do an Imperial Guard blog. And i was figuring i needed a bad guy for my guardsmen to fight. and the death storm box came out and i had a facination with the tyranids for a very long time so i died that splitting it with a buddy of mine. Like my guard im starting at five hundred points and working my way up slowly. As im working on both armies simultaneously it might be a little confusing to keep up with but it will be fun.
So why choose the name Grendel? well I really enjoyed the story of Beowulf and nobody really knew what he looked like and he was scary kinda like a boogie man and when he struck it was with out warning. so the idea with my nids is to do the same. troops will mostly consist of genestealers with broodlords and warriors. so big bugs to rampage around so carnifexes are in order. im thinkin a trygon prime as well cuase that is just a cool model. the other optrion for the hq i was thinking was not a tyrant actually but a tervigon or deathleaper. i really dig death leapers rules and fluff and they both work really well in my army. oh another thing im adding to my army is ravenors and the red terror cause well striking with out warning and stuff and the red terror again a really cool model and i think hes neat. Another thing i was thinking about adding was some venomthropes for rolling cover saves cause shrouded sucks and toxic miasma sounds kinda vicious. any way thats some thoughts i had for my army. i hope you enjoy this blog. as you know the hive mind always adapts so enjoy the progress. and if you have any questions or comments or suggestions im all ears.
So the list for Hive Fleet Grendel for five hundred points.
HQ Warrior Prime 160
Bone Sword Lash Whip, Barbed Strangler, Flesh Hooks
Greeting! So yea I went a little crazy yesterday and well i painted everything...i mean everything....and based it as well. So i actually got up to 750 points done....whoops...its a good thing. I didnt realize how much fun they were to paint! well I dig em and i hope you guys dig em too.
And since i got more than expected done I'll show you every thing.
With biomorphs and stuff it comes out to 748. and when i get my guard up to 750 and a table done ill do a report. Cuase action shots and stuff.
So the list:
HQ Warrior Prime 160
Flesh Hooks, Barbed Strangler, Bonesword and Lash whip
So i been thinking about the next purchase for the hive mind and the next few items im getting are ravenors a trygon another carnifex and more warriors
My advice is Carnifex work best in full three strong broods, either dakkafex or screamer killers, and that Mawloc's have a better use than Trygon's as their template is just fantastic unit killers. I run two, and the twins never let me down tbh.
hmmm like i said was thinking. still unsure only reason i was thinking a trygon prime is cause synapse.... as im going to try and not use zoans i know not the brightest idea but it is an idea. the ravenors well i really dig that unit so most likely gonna get some of them. getting two more lictors cause well lictors ...
in other news i got three newbies that wanna do a campaign...so its my bugs vs daemons (nurgle/khorne) vs tau vs necrons...so lots of biomass coming my way... should be an interesting fight to say the least.. as there is no imperium.
from what i gather they want it to be every man for himself. which is fine by me ill just eat them all lol. I'll up date more as it pops up. and prolly start another blog in the campaign section for when they get thier models painted ect and post bat reps on here and what not.
Given your first 750 points isn't really all that synapse hungry (stealers don't need it, single carnifex will be ok) and has warriors, prime and broodlord already able to provide synapse if required I would go with a mawloc over a trygon all day long.
Especially against those Tau, drop mawloc on those gun lining troops and have fun, and you have a lictor which synergises well with mawlocs as well.
Just my 2c.

So the hive fleet grows... just ordered a box of ravenors and two more lictors now victor has some friends to hang out with.
yea i have no desire to run two flyrants and a a dakkafex im sure they are super awesome but not what im going for...my friends havent figured out the how grendel works yet so i dont need to adapt just yet. the only thing they know is they hate genestealers.
working on some warriors today pics will be later today or sunday or monday. as do the ripper swarms and spore mines as well. and work on my ig...and possibly work on some terrain today...hooray days off...
Looks good, though I've a few suggestions for you...
Mawloc's and Broodlords don't need regeneration imo, so points could be saved there.
Lictors should only ever be used in broods of one.
The tervigon would probably be better off having electroshock grubs for the moments dreadnoughts or equivalent charge you.
As for any points saved from my suggestions, I'd go for a Sporefield formation from the baal leviathan book. It makes all the units in it infiltrate. Which for mucolids and spore mines is awesome and annoying as hell.
Well the regeneration is more for an annoyance factor on the mawlocs and broodlords.
Well after some debate i think i might have to go the shock grubs.
So the players have chose their armies and well its a pretty good mix.
Daemons (nurgle with a splash of khorne)
Crons (hybrid silver tide)
Tau (hes doin the gun line o death so marker lights and suits)
Space Wolves (mechanized)
and my weird nids that throw people for a loop cuase they are different.
So the crons and the tau ill have trouble against
deamons not so much cause shadows in the warp and i hit harder and faster than most of them.
space marines well they are space marines nuff said.
Well I dig it. i think three pheromoan trails is better than one. I'm still pretty keen on the regeneration cause i wanna watch jaws hit the ground when i start regenerating wounds and they go wtf? cuase it aint dead yet. i know d-bag move to noobie players but its gonna be funny imo.

Actually I have a 500 Point Game Tomorrow against my Tau Buddy and cron buddy and a 750 Game against my other friend who plays space marines actually my space marine friend is more like a frenemy i \ve yet to beat him with an army of mine so im hoping to do so with the bugs....grendel will rise.....grendel will consume....
I'm pretty sure regeneration is totally wasted on single point models as they still need to be alive to try and regenerate wounds. So essentially regen is wasted points on the smaller gribblies. On the bigger 6 wound creatures it can work well though

Hey guys sorry for no response been busy at work. actually a brood lord is a three wound goober so yea its kinda funny when he keeps regenerating and not dying.. I do have pictures to show you of my fight against some space marine. and acid blood is great too. at any rate.
well my box should be here sometime between now and monday so there is that then i can add more goons to my army. i also found some one to split the death storm box with so i might be getting the bugs from that... need a tyrant and a tervigon and gribbilies and a few other things and i should be good,....hmm decisions decisions...lol well thats all from my end. ill upload picrutes of my fight either today or tomorrow.
