I'm not a fan of the New Tyrannocyte model. It is bigger than an Imperial Knight and hast tentacles sticking out all over the place making it extraordinarily difficult to transport or use in a game.

All that being said, as an avid Tyranid player I needed a bunch of these things, and wasn't interested in paying full price. Thankfully a glance at the thing makes it obvious that it looks like an upside down pineapple, so I set out to find the right pineapple proxy. I found this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009RUV4ZO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A14PNQDXI9WPN4

2.99 plus shipping from Amazon. It is a mini pineapple scaled perfectly. So I set about modding it into a proper Tyrannocyte.

1st step was pulling out my bits and getting 5 MC Deathspitters, and a few terrain pieces from the Genestealer kit.

Next I had to add upright arms. I did this by taking some medium sized Scything Talons, and cutting them, and then reversing the facing of the Talon to the arm so that it matched the angle of arms better, and then affixed them to my pinapple top:

I added green stuff to cover the gaps and fix the textures and angles in certain areas. I also added Carnifex Foward carapiece sections to represent the carapace on the side of the Tyrannocyte. I only had 6 extra of these, and am hoping to round up 4 more from friends, but for now I hot glued on the 6 I had. I also drilled a bolt into the bottom of the pineapple to act as a support rod. I didn't have a spare 100 mm base, so I used an extra MC base, and instead of gluing the bolt to it, I used a large magnet.

Throughout this process I was constantly comparing to the Legit Tyrannocyte kit that I purchased and assembled. Here is a side by side picture.

I was fairly happy with the side on view, but not 100% happy with the downward view. It just doesn't look enough like a sphincter.

Real Tyrannocyte.

My Conversion

I'll post a picture after I get it primed.

Brilliant. And not half bad looking.
