Hey all I just wanted to share my list and show that assault armies used properly can win. Also sorry for a lack of pictures, the shop we play at doesn't allow cameras. So here is my list.
Belakor
Herald of khorne, juggernaut, grimgor, loci of fury
10 blood letters, icon, instrument, blood reaper
3 x 10 blood letters, no upgrades
15 khorne dogs
2 skull cannons
Aegis defense line w/ Icarus lascannon
I will try my best to remember what happen and try to paint a picture of the battles.
My first opponent we battled in the rocky hills. His list entailed
1 knight errant
1 knight paladin
Inquisitor with retinue
Firestorm redu fortification
4 void shields
Sorry I can't remember all the details, but it was a rough list. My opponent deployed first very central. There were 5 pre placed objectives one in the center of the board, the other four in the center of each table quarter. Each worth 3 points. At the end of every phase of one of your units is within 3" of an Ojective put your marker on it. You control that ojective. I counter deployed my aegis directly across from my opponent. Belakor hid behind LOS blocking terrain. Hounds and herald deployed on the left flank to counter his errant. One squad of blood letters deployed manning the Icarus. The rest in deep strike reserve. Night fight was in play and we failed to seize.
Turn 1 his Knights advanced taking control of the two objectives on his table half. They shot at my demonic forces trying to take out the skull cannons but the night proved to be too dark as the shots did no damage to them and only killing two blood letters. My turn, the hounds advance towards the central objective. Belakor flies forward casts invisibility on the hounds, perils and rolls a 2, taking a wound and due to unlucky rolling loses invisibility. My Skull cannons take some shots but the void shields soak up the damage.
Turn 2 not much happened opponent didn't move but killed more blood letters glanced the skull cannon on the left. One squad of blood letters came in on the right and grabbed the objective. Belakor flies towards the paladin. The hounds grab the central objective and charge the errant.
Turn 3 my opponent kills more blood letters which is now down to 3, the paladin stubbers a few blood letters on the right, the aegis saves the skull cannon again. The inquisors team shoots everything at belakor causing 1 wound. The errant kills a few hounds. My second set of blood letters come in and take the far left objective. Belakor lands on the right flank of the paladin ready for a fight. The right hand bloodletters advance. The skull cannon on the left takes the left rear objective. The hounds soak up more wounds.
Turn 4 his inquisitors team shoots the bloodletters on the left down to 4. The errant kills more hounds almost all are dead. The paladin risks shooting himself and blasts belakor out of existence with both battle cannon shots. Warlord and first blood go to my opponent. My last set of blood letters come in, I place them on the right to help try and distract the paladin. The other set rush forward and take the far right objective. My set of blood letters on the left rush behind LOS blocking terrain. Things are looking grim for the demons. My right hand skull cannon moves and takes the obj on my right. We shoot everything, 2 skull cannons and a snap firing Icarus lascannon at the paladin. Only one glance. The last of the dogs die, it's down to only the herald fighting the errant.
Turn 5 the inquisitors blast the blood letters on the right. The paladin advances and blasts the other squad to oblivion. The herald survives one more round. My turn with nothing left we move around making sure all objectives are secured. The herald survives another round of combat... We roll and it is game.
The game ended on turn 5. I was out gunned and couldn't really hurt my opponent. I pulled out a smashing victory, 16 points to 2 because In the end I had the mobility advantage to get all the objectives and line breaker. In all honesty my dice were really hot and my herald and hounds tied up one knight and let me out maneuver the other knight. I think my opponent played it too safe. Overall it was a great game and we both had fun.
Next mission- 3 relics, at the end of the game you score 3 points for each relic in your opponents deployment zone. Relics may move 12" in a turn, but only 6"per phase. I set up first. No night fight. Hammer and anvil deployment. No secondary objectives.
My opponent was running an Unbound army that had:
2 inquisitors, Santic powers, terminator armor
2 squads of scions with 4 melta guns each
2 squads of 3 henchman in chimeras
vendetta
Anti psyker assassin
2 wyverns
FW imp knight with flamer cannon from hell
This was a fuN match kinda felt like playing football. I won the roll and chose to go first. I deployed my aegis, bloodletters and a skullcannon on the top of a large hill. Could see everything. Hounds in the center. Bloodletters behind them(big mistake) and skull cannon and Belakor on the right. Two sets of bloodletters in reserve. He deploys the knight, the wyverns and the chimeras. The board was full of fantasy castle terrain.
Turn 1 I rush the hounds forward grabbing the first objective. My skull cannon on the right gets in position to Fire at the wyverns does nothing. Belakor casts invisibility on the hounds. The bloodletters on the ground advance behind the dogs. He advances his knight and burns the crap out of my bloodletters, 2 survive. The wyverns blast the bloodletters on the hill down to 1. His chimeras advance on his relic.
Turn 2 both squads of my blood letters come in. I flank both chimeras. My dogs pass the relic to the herald and we have to get the TO. I asked if my herald could hold two relics at once. After some research the TO ruled in my favor saying that a model could hold two relics at the same time. My herald then broke off from the hounds and grabbed the other relic. Belakor vector strikes a chimera, causing a hull point, and casts invisibility on the dogs. The skull cannons fire at the wyverns but do nothing. Snap firing my lascannon my lone bloodletter glances one hull point from the knight. The dogs charge the knight through a tunnel in a castle wall creating a choke point to minimize the number of stomp hits we would take. His turn all his reserves come in. My bloodletter intercepts his flier and it explodes. The assassin inside survives. I dispel his banishments. He shoots melta and destroys the skull cannon on the left. The other melta vets shoot at blood letters but only kill a couple. The wyverns take out half the bloodletters on the right flank.
Turn 3 my herald advances, Belakor lands forward away from the vets in position to threaten the wyverns. He casts in is on the hounds again. My skullcannon takes out a chimera. My bloodletters charge the other taking out his mobility. My herald charges one squad of henchmen to get them out of the way. Hounds survive a little longer. His wyverns retreat away from Belakor. He finishes off my blood letters, wounds the herald once with shooting. His knight kills the hounds and turns around. His assassin charges the herald Ina valiant effort to slow him down, but is taken out by the flurry of attacks.
Turn 4 this was were I solidified my victory. Belakor casts invisibility on the the herald, the herald uses the grimnore on Belakor. Belakor charges the knight. Belakor strikes first gets 5 hits and 4 pens. Rolls good enough and takes away all 5 remaining hull points killing the knight. The herald advanced further trying to block himself from the melta vets advancing on him. We survive all incoming fire power .
Turn 5 Belakor grabs the last relic and advances just inside of my opponents deployment zone. With grimnore and invisibility we endure all the incoming firepower and the game ends due to time.
This was a solid victory. I won 9 to 0. There is really nothing that I wouldn't do different, the wyverns surprised me and are very effective. There were three things that won me this game. First was the herald having both relics. Second was the vendetta being blasted by a super lucky lascannon shot by a lone bloodletter. 3rd Belakor killing the knight in one round of combat.again my dice were hot and I survived a lot of fire power.
Last mission- 5 player placed objectives. For every round you control an objective after the first turn you score one point. I was facing a 30k all forgeworld Legion black Templar army. My opponent had:
The first emperors champion
2 honor guard type squads
2 flying something claw drop pods
2 lascannon weapon guns
2 tarantula missile launchers
1 thunder fire cannon from hell
Sicarian
I got first turn, there was no night fight. I am not going to go turn by turn with this one. I basically advanced forward using the grimnore and invisibility taking his guns out one by one. His honor guard dropped in and messed us up. His HQ demolished my Herald in a challenge. Belakor did most the work running around killing his guns and giving me first blood from killing the sicarian. The skull cannons allowed me to grab objectives on the go and stay one step ahead. In turn 6 I had 1 skull cannon and Belakor left. My opponent had both honor guard squads. Belakor was in a challenge with his HQ. If he had killed me he would have won. The game ended on turn 6. Thanks to invisibility I survived and won the game 10 to 8.
This was a great mini tournament I learned a lot and had lots of fun. Fought some great opponents and some tough lists. Learned a lot and actually placed first place with an army that is not seen as much of a threat. Thank you for reading.
