Can anyone suggest a good, inexpensive brand of orange metallic paint?

Just add orange paint to metallic medium -- such as the one by Vallejo

Makes sense, I'll snag a pot when I get the chance.

The effect I was going for was this.

Copper can get that orange.

You can always do silver + glaze over with orange ink to tint it.

Yep, pure copper is orange-red.

If you just want an orange metallic, the medium and paint thing will work just fine. If you are trying to replicate copper, adding orange paint to metallic medium probably won't get you the result you're looking for. You're best bet is just to get some Vallejo Liquid Copper.

Or light metallic gold with a red ink (yellow + red = orange)? Less glazing required then. Granted I never actually tried this lol...

Hmmm... The old GW ink covered the gold, and turned it into a reddish stained yellow.

Ah ha, good to know that didn't work. Looks like copper is the way to go, or if for a more orangey orange, orange with metallic medium...

There's probably a brass in some range that looks sufficiently orange for you.

I personally would mix a gold paint which is very yellow with a red metallic paint. Tamiya makes a red metallic acrylic that I can recommend, but it's an alcohol based acrylic, so you'll need to find a similar gold (water based acrylics like GW and Vallejo don't mix brilliantly with alcohol based paints like Tamiya and Gunze). If you're willing to try enamels, there's a a few companies that make metallic reds which can be matched with an enamel metallic yellow/gold. Humbrol have an enamel brass that looks quite orange, Humbrol 54 Metallic Brass, I know some people use it as a touch up on Brembo brakes. But it's not super orange if that's your gold.

If what you want to do is appropriate for a spray, there's several companies that make metallic orange sprays for model cars. Testors and Tamiya come to mind.

If you're adventurous, you could try a touch up paint for a car. Find a car that's a nice metallic orange that you like, track down the paint code and get a touch up bottle of it, just check with the manufacturer what sort of paint it is. I know a few mid 70's cars that had orange metallics. Automotive shops may also be able to mix up a custom acrylic for you as well but they probably won't do the tiny amounts you want.

You could also paint it a bright silver and then hit it with a coat or two of orange clear, that will give a pearly finish. Tamiya make a clear orange, I've never tried it but I have tried other clears in the Tamiya range that I liked so it might be worth a shot. Vallejo also make a an orange clear, but I've never used a clear in the Vallejo range at all so no idea how good they are.

Closest GW is Screaming Bell or Balthasar Gold.

I made a paint chart of all my metallics and held a piece of new copper wire to it; Balthasar was an exact match.

However, the exact shade of copper in your picture doesnt quite have a match. I have a jar of Screaming Bell that matches it closely, however, every jar of Screaming Bell I have ever gotten was different from the last >.<

I still feel the silver + candy orange would get you that color perfectly

Isn't "metallic orange" just copper, brass, bronze, or gold?

It is but the picture he linked is probably some flavor of computer edited.

No pure copper paint is going to look like that
