Hey all, last year you could saw mine "Lords of The Seas" High elves eagle ship diorama which won 1st place in Games Workshop Warsaw in Poland. It was my third gold medal in this competition in a row.
Now I'm putting plans together to make a Chess Set, using Vampire Counts and Empire/Bretonian models as respective Black and White chess pieces.

I'm going to be using 40mm (or larger) round Bases, as if I used the 20mm ones it would be way to small a set. Plus the 40's give me way more options in terms of Modelling.

So Far I am thinking of the following for the pieces:

Vampire Counts:
King - Konrad Von Carstein
Queen - Isabella Von Carstein
Bishop - Wight King bsb + another bsb made from Grave guard standard bearer with Von Carsteins upgrade pack Standard
Knight - 2x Black Knights
Rook - 2x necromancer
Pawn's - 8x Grave Guards with Von Carstein Upgrade pack shields and swords/mele weapons


Empire:
King - Captain from Empire Command Set or from Empire Manann' Blades Command Set (both from FW range)
Queen - Damsel with Staff
Bishop - Standard bearers from Empire Command Set and from Empire Manann' Blades Command Set
Knight - 2x Demigryph Knights
Rook - 2x Empire Battle Mages
Pawn's - Empire Manann' Blades with Empire Manann' Blades upgrade set (from FW range)

All models are ordered and im w8 to get those all candies in to my hands

Whole plan is simply. ~45cm x 45cm board with squares for "chess figures" which will be also as cover of the box.



ill make ~2,5 cm edge arround whole box to sculpt scenery and to give whole chess box some story to tell. Cause we have Good vs Evil battle on chess board we should have same battle arround. So there will be a lot of skeletons and other "dead" stuff coming out from graves and on opposite half of box we will have tons of imperial soldiers with hand weapons and pikes and some handgunners. Maybe some cavalry and bigger things on both of sides ill see.

Chess board will be as i said earlier also as cover of the box. All miniatures will have spot inside the box in foam cover to protect miniatures and for better transport possibility.

i want to achieve smooth transition between whole background of the box. From VC side which will be totally dark ad destroyed, burned out coming through battlefield to Empide side where we will have all things still alive.
