Was in the youngstown Ohio area this weekend at a FLGS and was talking to a young kid. I made the comment that there where no game stores in the new castle,pa area which is close to the area I live. He said " you don't know about the yoga store?" Not being originally from the area I had no idea what he was talking about. He continues to tell me about a store which is a place where they teach women's yoga and that the store owners husband runs a game store out of. Guess he has MTG, 40k, xwing, and DnD going on for the kids while their mothers are doing yoga. So I got to thinkin, get my wife into a yoga class and I can game. It's a win win situation!! Figure if I go there by myself to game the women will look at me like some 40 yr old pervert just there to watch them stretch. Also found out this weekend from a older guy that there is a fishing bait shop that has MTG tournaments going on. Guess guys are walking in buying bait and talking about fishing while kids are playing MTG.

You're already paying for the space, and that's so much of the overhead. Why not run a game store out it it! Lol, that is too funny. When you started out with Youngstown, OH, I thought the post was going in a very different direction...

Kirasu: Have we fallen so far that we are excited that GW is giving us the opportunity to spend 58$ for JUST the rules? Surprised it's not "Dataslate: Assault Phase"

AlexHolker: "The power loader is a forklift. The public doesn't complain about a forklift not having frontal armour protecting the crew compartment because the only enemy it is designed to face is the OHSA violation."

AlexHolker: "Allow me to put it this way: Paramount is Skynet, reboots are termination attempts, and your childhood is John Connor."

Youngstown Ohio is not the nicest of town, lead the nation in the highest murder rate back in the 90's. Had a guy throw a brick through my windshield while my wife and I were coming home from a wedding. Thankfully my wife did not get severally hurt just a few cuts from the windshield exploding. My wife laughs at my stories of the hookers trying to flag me down when I am heading home at night from my buddies house. I would not live in this area if it were not for my wife being from youngstown.

I get that, Chute. I'm from Las Vegas, born and raised. Crazy high murder rate. Drug usage here is among the top in the country. Lots of burn outs. I've seen some things, though people who've never met me wouldn't know it because I'm an ubergeek.

That Yoga class thing, though, that's a great idea. I should run that by some of my more entrepreneurial friends; maybe that idea could work here.

Not only is it a women's yoga place it's also a female boutique according to the Internet. I guess they also sell bra and panties. I might have to drag the wife to this place to check it out.

And also crystal out the back? That would be the Youngstown trifecta.

Gas station by my house was just raided for sell bootlegged DVDS movies. Guess they were selling them to undercover cops and they finally raided the joint. They also sell cigarettes individually at a quarter a piece to the crack heads who need a smoke after robbing people's houses. A company that was taking the fracking water from the oil and gas industry was busted for pouring millions of gallons a hazardous fracking water down the storm drains which dumps into them mahonning river. I had to go to Youngstown for work once. My taxi driver (getting me to the airport for my rental car) tried twice to hook me up with a prostitute: once at a whore house, once with his friend who turned tricks. It was an odd trip. I turned it down though. Not willing to risk it with a prostitute.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I thought it was bad enough that one of my FLGS is on a block like this Paint Your Plate Place, Yoga Studio, FLGS, Gym, and a Salon and Spa.

As we nerds roll by, we walk past huge plate glass windows of people working out and looking pretty. Talk about one of these things just doesn't belong here.

Welcome to youngstown. I live 3 miles outside of youngstown on the pa/Ohio boarder. Some crackhead by my house was trying to steal the copper wire out of the main electric lines. Took a pair of bolt cutter and cut the line, did not have power for a week, somehow the crackhead survived without injury.

At least you have a game store. Here in the middle of nowhere, NM, the only gaming is Wal-Mart selling Magic cards.

Sigh.

I was going to say "that is strange." but then remembered that I got into tabletop and travelling to tournaments here. In the back room of a small mining town's DIY and Furniture store. In the months when it wasn't winter, we would play in the closed Christmas section of the store, surrounded by giant polar bears and snowmen.

I wonder, in towns where there is no FLGS, where people pick up the habit generally.

As far as I can tell they don't. They take up regularly drinking to excess instead. Or they leave town.

I now live out in a very small town, the closest FLGS is about 45 min away. So I built a gaming table. Now I just try to get friends into gaming (like a crack dealer but all legal and I recommend not trying to smoke the grey plastic....)

I live in a small village outside of new castle and youngstown. The only store here is a porno shop.. It's weird when I give people directions and tell them to make a right turn after you pass the porno shop to get to the road I live on.

The nearest city here is 60 miles away... and I haven't found a game store THERE either.

I've considered building a game table now that I have room. I'm not sure it'll do any good though; the people here cannot seem to grasp the concept of a tabletop RPG or wargame. It's all computerized... or it just doesn't exist here.

(And that's saying something; 'high-speed internet' here is 6 meg...)
